My Review: This book takes place in an alternate present, where due to the depression some people have been forced into the Service. This is basically sex slavery. Only wrapped a little ni
cer. The main character Elias starts off as a rich spoiled brat who gets whatever he wants, including a Servant. When he sees Jared he has to have him and to hell with the consequences. He doesn’t care that Jared isn’t for sale, he makes his parents go out of their way to get him what he wants. The fact he knows he’s going to get what he wants make him look a little like a prick in my book.
Now I should warn you JC skates a very thin line with this book, mentioning but not actually showing things that are considered taboo.
Jared is taken from his family and forced into training at 12. Because of this he is very naive about many things. I found myself relating to him much easier than Elisa, because of his almost childlike innocents about certain things. I truly enjoyed watching both of these characters grow over the course of the book.
JC also give you a despicable villain to hate in Lord Stuart. From the very beginning she builds your dislike of this man, even with her description. Through out the book I found myself routing again and again for Jared and Elisa as they take you along on their emotional and physical roller coaster.
