Poor Boy by Jaime Samms

Poor Boy by Jaime Samms
Freya's Bower
Erotic, GLBT, M/M

Summary: All his life, Roy has had things easy; born to money and privilege, he's a grown man before he realizes how his father's money has bought his privilege off the backs and tragedies of too many people. Now he's on his own, and making his way in the world might be a lot harder than he thought.

When he meets street hustler, Scooby, he falls, hard and fast, not wanting to believe the possibility Scooby is one of the unfortunates his family has stepped over to get their way. As young and fragile as Scooby seems, he might be the only one strong enough to save Roy from himself.

My Review: This is a gritty portrayal of a rich guy spiraling down till he hits bottom. Roy finds himself suddenly disowned by his family, boyfriend and alone penniless on the streets. That’s when he meets Scooby a hustler and street wise younger man. Roy takes a reluctant liking to Scooby, who tends to bring him more trouble. I found Scooby’s come here, come here- go away, go away attitude a little annoying at times. But you do learn why he acts this way later in the book. Over the course of the story, Roy pulls himself back up, both financially and mentally. Doing things he’s not happy about or proud of, usually for Scooby’s sake.

Jamie does a wonderful job of painting a dirty, rough city underbelly of whores, drug dealers, and the lower rung of societies ladder. You find yourself routing for Roy and Scooby through out this book, even when they fall into self pity or begin acting childish, and you want to slap them. Watching them grow into almost completely different characters by the end of the book.

Rated 5 Delightful Divas by Jade!
