Bare Throat, Naked Hunger by Paige E. Roberts
Publisher: Midnight Showcase Fiction
Genre: Anthology, Erotic, Paranormal, Fantasy, BDSM

Peacemaker Summary: This is the story of two mortal enemies who realize there is always something worse than each other. Daniel is a werewolf who has tired of battle and seeks solace in a place of familiar retreat. In his wolf form he crosses what he believes to be another wolf and he’s immediately attracted to her. Night Eagle once a powerful vampire wise woman who’d mated with werewolf shaman to bring peace between their races. Now that hatred has flared anew she has come to warn werewolves of approaching danger when she and Daniel are attacked. Can she convince Daniel peace is better than blind fighting?

Peacemaker Review: I found this story striking a cord deep inside of me. Ms Roberts has elegantly portrayed a very real issue of prejudices affecting our view on life. The conflict of Daniel’s desire for what he believes will kill him, is very sensual and dark in the classic erotic horror sense. It had me on the edge of my seat in anticipation.

In Service Immortal Summary: This tale is of an unnamed hero who serves his immortal queen with unwavering loyalty even though he longs for more than mere servitude. Serving her through several of her annual Ceremony of Blood, he longs to be her “sacrifice”. When he falls ill, can he convince his queen to grant him his fondest desire, even if it means his death?

In Service Immortal Review: I can honestly say I was certain if I would like this story when I started reading it. While the hero is never mentioned by name and his queen, is simply referred as just that, I was deeply touched by the strong bond between the two. As with Peacemaker, this story gives us and up close and personal look at the depth of one man’s loyalty to the sovereign and woman that he places above all others. Be warned though as a reader you may shed a few tears over this one.

Wolfhound Summary: A tale of a wolfhound vampire who was looking for refreshment and to be left alone when she walks into a bar to find Joe. In saving his life from two other vampires, she is gravely wounded. When he offers his life for her, Terry’s tempted but how can she take what she fought for and nearly died for?

Wolfhound Review: What a wonderful story. It captured my attention immediately. Joe’s willingness to give himself to what he thought would kill him was worth his brief touch of something wild and rare was moving. This was definitely a page turner. The spicy sex in it was just a plus.

Sacrifice Summary: As an undercover cop, Kate has joined an occult that she believes is responsible for the disappearance of several young men in the area. After going through tests which make college hazing seem tame, she awakes with a hunger for blood. She and five others are under the control of Valera, the head vampire. With one final test, kill James, the submissive who has been supplying them with nourishment, causes an internal war amongst the undead. Will James survive?

Sacrifice Review: A complex story that had me both cheering for the heroines of the story while wanting to find an evil way to do in Valera. The steamy ménage scenes had me squirming in my seat.

As a collection this book covers a variety of emotions and the writing is superb. The only complaint I have is I wish the stories would’ve been a bit longer. I give this book 4 ½ Delightful Divas.

Rated 4 and a half Delightful Divas by Dakota!
