Finding a Heart of Snow by Ian SentelikPublisher: Dreamspinner Press
Genre: Erotic Fantasy, GLBT, M/M

Summary: Long ago, the great Snow Queen died of a broken heart, sending her magical world of dancing snowflakes and glittering icicles into a deep depression. Fearful of the same fate, her subjects sealed their hearts into an icy crystal for safekeeping, hoping to protect themselves and their future. For centuries, the communal Snowheart keeps the snow spirits of the north safe from their emotions, until a mischievous luck spirit steals the mystical crystal, intending to melt it down and extract its magical power at the cost of the snow spirits' lives. Marmion Roy never dreams of such a frosted, wondrous world until a snow spirit invades his reality, his home, and his heart. Shirai demands his help to recover the Snowheart and annihilate the thieving luck spirit. Because Shirai is void of softer emotion, Mar believes that love with a brusque and literally heartless spirit would be impossible — at least until Shirai accidentally is reunited with his own personal part of the Snowheart.
My Review: Have you ever had “one of those days”? Nothing has gone right for Mar today, and it all started when he woke up to a broken window, and ended with dropped groceries and stolen textbooks when he got home.
Oh, wait. No it didn’t. When he finally makes it home and into his apartment, he’s attacked
by a man “with a voice as cold as the icy hand pressed like a tiger’s paw against his throat”. And so his adventure begins. Will he pass out? Why is the hand so icy? When will his luck improve? Why do they end up at his ex-girlfriends house? And what happens to his heart when Shirai finishes his mission? Can a mortal and a snow spirit have a happy ever after?I laughed, cheered and cringed, got confused and cried. This may be a fantasy story but the characters were still real enough to suck me into the story. Finding a Heart of Snow was not edge-of-your-seat intense but more steady paced with bursts of intense. I’d like to read what happens next. Just to let you know, this is more sensuality than thrusting sex.
Finding a Heart of Snow was a delightful read. Ian Sentelik is currently at university studying Creative Writing. If this is how well he writes now, he’s going on my “watch for” list.
