Night Angel by Renee Reeves

Night Angel by Renee Reeves
Publisher: Black Velvet Seductions
Genre: Erotic Romance

Summary:
Scarred and with a permanent limp, Morgan moved to a quiet cottage in rural Montana wanting tranquility, solitude, a place where she could heal from the brutality inflicted on her by her late husband.Ex-convict, horse trainer, Nick Evanoff didn’t need anyone, at least he never had. Then he spotted Morgan sitting in a copse of trees, technically trespassing. One glimpse of her stopped his aggression cold. In its place lust rose; powerful, primitive, demanding. There was something else there too – need. But Morgan was determined to have nothing to do with men, and to go nowhere near a relationship ever again.

Could Nick work the same magic with Morgan that he worked with the abused horses he rescued? Could he teach her that it was safe to trust, that sex didn’t have to be painful or humiliating?

My Review: Wow, where to start? Night Angel is Renee Reeves’ debut novel, and it is fantastic. This is a story of a sweet, slow romance between two people with horrifying pasts. We get a good look at their past traumas, which are not for the faint at heart, but made this book so much more touching and inspiring.

Nick is an extremely handsome and extremely loving man who is an ex-con. I am not going to tell you what he did, because I was desperate to learn the truth throughout the book, and was near tears when I finally found out. I will tell you, though, that he has come back from a horrible past and transformed into one of the most admirable of men. Nick is a gentle giant who scares people because he can look so fierce. He has a love of horses and abuse victims, and he combined the two to form a horse ranch in which he rescues abused horses. He was the perfect match for tiny, abused Morgan. No other man could have possibly had the understanding, love and patience to bring her out of her nightmarish past.

Morgan is a sweet, brave woman who suffered the ultimate abuse at the hands of her husband. I relived every moment of her memories and was moved beyond words. She is ashamed of her past and believes that it was her fault. Her scarring extends to the external, and she keeps that hidden as much as she can. Her slight disfigurement and disability only added to an exceptional story.

The passion that these two share was explosive, made even more so by Nick’s patience and willingness to make Morgan feel loved and comfortable. Renee Reeves obviously knew her characters very well, painted their stories in vivid detail, and gave them strong voices, which will stay with me for a very long time to come.

This debut author is now at the top of my list to keep an eye on. I anxiously await the release of her second book. What would be even sweeter is if I could read a book on Jake, Nick’s brother and an excellent secondary character, with whom I fell in love with nearly as much as I did Nick and Morgan.
