Genre: Erotic Urban Fantasy

Summary: MacKayla Lane lies naked on the cold stone floor of a church, at the mercy of the erotic Fae master she once swore to kill. Far from home, unable to control her sexual hungers, MacKayla is now fully under the Lord Master’s spell.…In New York Times bestselling author Karen Marie Moning’s stunning new novel, the walls between human and Fae worlds have come crashing down. And as Mac fights for survival on Dublin’s battle-scarred streets, she will embark on the darkest—and most erotically charged—adventure of her life.

He has stolen her past, but MacKayla will never allow her sister’s murderer to take her future. Yet even the uniquely gifted sidhe-seer is no match for the Lord Master, who has unleashed an insatiable sexual craving that consumes Mac’s every thought—and thrusts her into the seductive realm of two very dangerous men, both of whom she desires but dares not trust.

As the enigmatic Jericho Barrons and the sensual Fae prince V’lane vie for her body and soul, as cryptic entries from her sister’s diary mysteriously appear and the power of the Dark Book weaves its annihilating path through the city, Mac’s greatest enemy delivers a final challenge.…

It’s an invitation Mac cannot refuse, one that sends her racing home to Georgia, where an even darker threat awaits. With her parents missing and the lives of her loved ones under siege, Mac is about to come face-to-face with a soul-shattering truth—about herself and her sister, about Jericho Barrons…and about the world she thought she knew.

My Review: This is the fourth book in the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. If you have never read this series, please start from the beginning with Darkfever. Everything that is about to happen in this particular book will not make any sense unless you read the previous books.

With that said, I have watched MacKayla grow and change from a budding southern girl dressed in pink to a warrior clad in head to toe black. She has become our hero, and her transformation is amazing and awe inspiring. She likes to upgrade herself every so often, and in this particular book, she has become Mac 4.0. This is the Mac that will kill without remorse, use anything and everything to get what she wants, and along the way figures out that no matter what, she was born to be a Sidhe Seer. She is born with the task of keeping the Fae realm away from the humans. But we don't know if she will succeed.

We last left Mac stuck in the middle of Dublin on All Hallows Eve. Now, with the aftermath of the walls falling, she must regain herself and fulfill her destiny.

Ms. Moning has continued to weave a tale of love and loss. I love the way she has continued to throw Mac into situations where you’re kept guessing if she will succeed or not. In this book, she has had unspeakable things done to her, but her spirit and will to live are amazing. I sat in disbelief as I watched Ms. Moning tear Mac apart and it was then that I began to wonder who will Mac become as a result of these challenges. As Mac was rebuilt better, stronger, and faster, I smiled, because only Mac could have the most disgusting things happen to her and still bounce back, and look for more.

No matter which part of the book you walk in on, you feel like you have always been there. Ms. Moning grabs you and doesn’t let go until Mac has the final word. I like how Ms. Moning describes the Unseelie Fae, each character is different and becomes more disgusting as they get higher in the Fae court.

I also like how each character stays true to their word. Barrons, and V’lane are still as sneaky as before, only Mac is wise to their little games.

If there is anything that I would say that could be negative about this book, it is the very beginning. Mac goes through something that no woman should have to be subjected to, and it broke my heart. In the long run though, I know without this little event, she wouldn’t be who she is by the end of the book.

Unlike the last three books, this ending has you at the edge of your seat. I can’t wait for the final installment of the series. Oh and Ms. Moning, I will definitely be leaving a couple of extra lights on at night.
