Footprints by Clare London

Footprints by Clare London
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Genre: Erotic GLBT, M/M

Summary:
Anti-terrorist operatives Evan Riley and Adam Nolan couldn't be less alike. Evan is easygoing, sharp-witted, and sociable, while Adam is the gifted and coolly controlled leader of the operation. But as their team spends nine straight months in a safe house on the coast, Evan sees much more in Adam. For Adam, the sea holds bitter, shocking memories that haunt his days and nights. But despite his stubborn refusal to allow himself to live, Evan is determined to be the one to help Adam face his personal demons and the idea of a future together.

My Review: Footprints by Clare London may be a short novella, but it is one of the most intense books I have read in a while. This is the first time I have read Ms. London’s work and now I am wondering why I haven’t picked up her titles before. She has a writing voice and style that stands up and demands that you take notice.

The dialogue flow was flawless and natural. I did not notice one hitch throughout the story. Footprints was written in the first person point of view, Evan’s, and held many scenes which were his memories over the course of the last nine months. I have often read other books in the first person, and it has never been my favorite POV, because I feel like the story becomes one-sided. That was not the case in this book. I felt close to not only Evan, but also Adam and the few secondary characters.

I instantly fell in love with Evan and his openness. Adam held an element of mystery and darkness. He was intriguing before and after I finally got to meet him. He is simply a haunted man with bad memories who is being stubborn and will not let anyone see his pain or get too close. Evan is the only person with the heart, desire, and determination to help Adam out of his hole of misery and into the land of the living. Both of these men are very realistic and memorable.

If you haven’t read any of Clare London’s books, my recommendation would be to run to the nearest website and get yours today. Her writing talent is phenomenal. I lived this vividly described story and only wish that I could get more of Evan and Adam.
