Summary: It's three times the pleasure - ten years on!
Eric Courtland, his wife Ally and husband Nick have been living the sweet life for the past decade, tucked away in their luxurious Tuscan villa. But when a family crisis brings them back to the States, blackmail and an unexpected revelation threaten the delicate balance of their marriage.
Weathering this storm may take everything they have - and still tear them apart.
Amanda’s Review: This book takes place about seventeen years in the future, and acceptance has begun to make its way through the world. Eric, Nick, and Ally are a married three-some in Tuscany, their life seemed relaxed and easy, but we all know it has to come to an end sometime.
Cat Grant wove a brilliant tale of love, loss, and betrayal. I was so concentrated on the blackmail and Nick’s story, everything else fell away. It wasn’t that I didn’t like the other parts--on the contrary I loved them. The tension and build up carries the whole story from beginning to end.
Ms. Grant showed us a world of acceptance, but not acceptance for all, which I believe is the moral of this story. I would hope ten years in the future we would be where this story takes place, but something tells me it might not come to pass. I can say, though, I did cry at the end, I found the tribute to Nick’s mother quite fitting for the story and I cried more at the thought of their little threesome solidifying into a
full fledge family.
The characters are brilliantly written, each voice is as strong as the other and although their personalities are different from each other, you end up rooting for all of them. I loved Ally; she was the quiet sentinel for the threesome. She held her ground but supported both men in her life which was quite refreshing.
I loved Nick, he is sensitive, but he is also strong and nurturing. He deals with stress different than Ally or even Eric, his ability to let everything roll off him is amazing and even when he gets upset and angry it’s like he centers himself and he is good to go.
Eric, on the other hand, was pushy and very angst ridden. He always wants to protect his family, but by doing so, takes away their ability to deal with even the simplest of tasks. I did get frustrated part way through and you could see the other characters were just as frustrated, too. It’s almost like he wants everything put on himself so no one has to worry. In the end it almost tears their marriage apart.
Ms. Grant’s story keeps you turning the page and if that is something you like, then Triad: The Courtland Chronicles, book 5 is right up your alley!
Rated 5 Delightful Divas and a Recommended Read by Amanda!
