Rockstar by Mina Carter

Rockstar by Mina Carter
Publisher: Lyrical Press
Genre: Erotic Romance

Summary:
A sexy Rock Star. A man bent on revenge. One explosive love affair.
Zette Matthews, darling of the music industry, has it all: haunting voice, dramatic looks and curvaceous figure. Every woman wants to be her, and every man wants to be with her.
Unlike the rest of her fans, Jarrett Jansen isn't content to adore Zette from afar. He intends to have her. Especially now as he finds himself in need of a wife before his birthday, or he'll lose control of the business he's run for years.

Revenge may be best served cold, but JJ prefers his hot, with a side order of pleasure, secured with a wedding band.

My Review: The title struck me right off since I always love a Rock star story. I was thrilled to find out the heroine, Zette Mathews, was the Rock star. She’s not an arrogant character but one that I could identify with, sexy, talented and unspoiled. In addition, I was thrilled that Zette wasn’t a perfect model thin type but had curves like most women. J.J.’s response to her curves and Zette’s comfort with herself enhanced the appeal of the book and the character.

Ms. Carter did an excellent job matching J.J. Jensen as her lover. Strong, self assured and a cold rogue at first, Zette brought out the best in him. The background story of young lovers was woven in quite well, giving enough but not dragging the pace. A little blackmail added some nice tension and a jumping off point for the story. The sex scenes were enticing and had the right mix of physical and emotion. I was a little disappointed at the lack of confrontation when Zette found out J.J’s coldhearted plan at their wedding but it did come. The mix of J.J.’s attorney, Logan, almost made me wonder if there could be some potential with him and Zette if J.J. didn’t get his ways straightened. J.J succeeded in being a better man to get his woman and I was glad to see a happy ending. To be honest, I would like to see Ms. Carter do a story on the womanizing Logan in the future. It would be a must read for me. As a final note, I’d also like to mention the book cover was outstanding and suited the story perfectly.

Overall, I would recommend Rockstar for a fun read about a strong heroine.

Humbling Harry by Belted One

Humbling Harry by Beltedone
Publisher: loveyoudivine
Genre: BDSM

Summary:
Harry cheated. The next thing he knew he was permanently on the ground looking up at his beautiful wife. She sentenced him to 5 years of crawling for his crimes but that was only the beginning of his suffering. He is treated like a dog, given a physical by an evil vet, raped by rednecks in an unbelievable house party and finally sent to a a one way ticket to his worst nightmare. One the way, Harry learned why he cheated, but hobbled and gagged, he might never be able to find redemption. There is a gravestone with his name on it if he fails.

My Review: There‘s no question but that there’s a story in Humbling Harry, a quite absolute story of power exchange with extreme male humiliation and feminine perfection. However it is well hidden and thin at times which made Humbling Harry an exciting read at times but bothersome at other times. The basic principle the author relies on is the humbler, a device made to clamp down on a male’s genitals when they are pulled back between his legs thereby making it impossible for him to stand without ripping his balls off. Once humbled by his wife Colleen, the cheater and embezzler Harry is treated like an animal with maximum humiliation and pain.

After a certain level of training in their home, Colleen takes Harry to a local female veterinarian, Rita, who turns out to be the vindictive character of the story seeming dedicated to the utter destruction or subjugation of the entire male sex into helpless house pets due to the rape and murder of her daughter by a man. What Rita puts Harry through is in a word mind blowing, but then the story retreats and slows as Harry is taken to a strange lesbian beauty parlor where I expected some feminization to go on, but indeed there was little if any of that proven method of male humiliation, which both surprised and puzzled me.

Harry becomes almost adjusted to the animal conditions under which he lives when one day by happenstance a female UPS driver makes a delivery to this home and Harry makes his big mistake. He pleads with the driver to rescue him, but she’s far more interested in Colleen’s expensive house and why he is nude and humbled. She invites her friends over for a party, which results in Harry’s anus receiving a lot of abuse, and the UPS driver’s boyfriend getting humbled too.

From here the story gets surreal, as for attempting to escape Harry, Cliff, the UPS driver’s boyfriend, and Tom, Rita’s husband, get sent off to this hellish kennel where the horrors to male doggies go beyond belief. Believe it or not it was not this aspect of this story which annoyed me. The most annoying aspect was a running series of for lack of another word ‘commercials’ for and about the humbler product and how to dominate males with it. It almost seemed to me as if the author were purporting the humbler as a real product to be sold on TV by a pitchman, or woman in this case obviously. The line of reason is crossed when Star Trek technology is purportedly used to form nano-probes into a butt plug in a male’s ass. I got a good laugh out of that one. The last complaint I had was with the author’s attempts in the story and especially in the epilogue to make it seem like this was happening all over. Innocent men were being humbled by their wives simply because they could, or as the author suggests, because they could rape and spread disease to women. Since when does our society imprison people for what they could do? It’s a scary thought.

Bottom line? If you’re a hardcore femdom enthusiast, male or female, you’ll probably like Humbling Harry, but if you’re looking for erotica or even ‘normal’ BDSM, did I say normal, stay away from this book.

Rating: I’ve given some books one Delightful Diva, but in those cases the writing was poor or the story structure or plot was defective, and despite the annoyances there is a plot to this story. I settled on giving Humbling Harry two Delightful Divas.

Desperation Dancing by Cita Powers

Desperation Dancing by Cita Powers
Publisher: Lyrical Press
Genre: Erotic GLBT, M/M

Jaime's Top Pick for April!

Summary: Mike Polaski is a really good dancer and a decent human being who's had one hell of a run of bad luck in love. He has hopes things are looking up when Aladair Lovet waltzes into his dance class and his life. Then he finds out Alasdair already has a partner and Mike has to put his feelings for the man aside. When Alasdair's life is turned upside down by betrayal, Mike is there to help. Maybe he'll get the last dance, after all.

My Review: Well, I'm not sure if this book was actually billed as a mystery, but if it was, it wasn't very mysterious. Don't let that put you off, though. It really has a lot to recommend it. The crime plot was firmly in second place to the romance, which works for me. It was pretty linear and predictable, but it also wasn't given as much attention as the romance. The story very much centered on the characters.

Mike is just the kind of guy you want to take home to Mom. He was raised right and isn't ashamed to show it, nor was he ashamed to admit he wasn't perfect. Alasdair is very likeable, too, more in a lost puppy sort of way. The secondary characters, even the dog. (maybe especially the dog!) are clearly defined and likeable. Well, except the baddies, and they were pretty sketchy, but so was their plot.

What I found interesting about this plot is how closely it resembles a traditional straight romance plot, unusual for a quality gay romance, in my experience. When an author tries to follow the straight formula with two male leads, often one of the men comes off too – dare I say it – girly, but not this time. Both men are nicely male and enjoyable to read.

All of the pieces of this plot are neatly in place, like a jigsaw puzzle, fitting together perfectly for a picture perfect conclusion. Not really a surprise, because the picture is right there on the front of the box. Still, it's the emotional content of the book that really catches and holds the reader, and Mike is a perfect foil for it, passionate and obtuse at the same time, hard to pull off, but masterfully done. He was sympathetic enough, nice enough, sweet enough, for me to really want him to get his guy.

My Recommendation: I put this book in my bubble bath category. Perfect for a soak and a glass of wine, a feel good, lovely read, and worth the time.

Brought to Life by Dara England

Brought to Life by Dara England
Lyrical Press
Fantasy

Ava's Top Pick for April!
Summary: Megan's dashing Duke escapes from a novel into real life. Megan Hurst's life has taken some unexpected turns: First she loses her heart to the dashing hero of a novel. And then she meets an amnesia victim who seems just like him. The mysterious stranger needs her help to piece his past together, and the closer the two become, the more questions arise about his resemblance to a "fictional" character. Megan's romantic feelings and her bizarre suspicions bring her to an impossible question... Has she dreamed the Duke to life.

My Review: Life takes begins to resemble fiction when Megan Hurst meets a mysterious stranger. The man resembles the Duke from a recent romance novel she has read. Duke was struck by a car, and has lost his memory. Similarities continue to compile between the real man and the fictional hero. Megan finds herself falling for a man she knows literally nothing about.

Brought to Life is endearing in its ability to pull you in and convey that light, whimsical tone that Ms. England executes so well. This is the first book by Dara England that I have ever read and it will not be the last.

Decadent Deceptions by Keta Diablo

Decadent Deceptions by Keta Diablo
Noble Romance Publishing
Erotic Historical

Summary: Daring and desperate to win Morgan’s love, Olivia Breedlove embarks on a reckless folly. But everything backfires when Morgan remains one step ahead of her and the game ventures down a path of duplicity and murder.A decade ago, Morgan was a heartbeat away from taking Olivia’s virginity. Her father, Thaddeus, intervened and threatened to meet him over pistols if he so much as looked at his daughter again. But now, Thaddeus is dead and Morgan has no intention of ignoring the ravenous hunger he’s harbored for the blasted woman for ten years. One way or the other, he will quench this burning desire and make her his forever.

My Review: Olivia Breedlove has a problem, she needs to find herself a husband within six months or lose her inheritance. But she isn't deterred, Olivia knows whom to marry—Morgan Gatewood, it's just a matter of persuasion. When she asks Morgan to take her to the brothels, under the pretense of wanting to learn how to please a man, she didn't expect him to place a stipulation on the arrangement. He requires that she be an observer in sexual tutelage. This is an undertaking easier said than done, but then again—the greatest satisfaction comes from doing.

In this late 19th century piece, Ms. Diablo provides us with a tight plot full of desire and tension. Decadent Deceptions supplies the reader fulfillment in every way imaginable. I was engaged by the characters, found myself cheering them on, and it became hard to stop reading once I started. Decadent Deceptions is a wonderful late American historical for erotic reader.

Guardian Dawn by Anthony Stevens

Guardian Dawn by Anthony Stevens
Publisher: Lyrical Press
Genre: Urban Fantasy

Summary:
Good and evil battle on common ground.

In this first installment of the Common Ground Series, the US Capitol is under attack from a handful of extremists. Dedicated to their cause and led by man whose cruelty knows no bounds, the enemy is poised to unleash hell on earth.

A lone shaman with military connections must gather a force of unconventional heroes to derail the attacks. Each warrior possesses skills in a new brand of warfare, and they just might succeed if their leader can convince them the key to victory rests not in the hands of their allies, but in their allies' paws and claws...

The Common Ground Series pits old magic and technological wizardry against a universal enemy. Epic, sprawling battles threaten to divide and destroy both the natural and man-made worlds alike as they struggle to defeat an evil bent on their extinction.

My Review: This book was certainly interesting, if nothing else. I have to admit that this is not my usual style of book. In Guardian Dawn, we have Guardians who are watched over closely by animals, which speak to each other and certain other people. Our two most important Guardians are a homeless man and woman who watch out for signs of trouble and keep the people of the city safe. We are also introduced to several other characters, all very different, but very important to the story and the survival of the city. Each of these characters have talents, some known and some not, but they all have a pale blue aura that marks them as different, as Other. These characters form a team that fights a small group of terrorists, intent on destroying their city. I have to say that for me, this story was laid out in a way that made it not flow well and at times, I wondered why I continued to read. However, Anthony Stevens kept me just interested enough, because I kept wandering how all these different people, from different walks of life and different parts of the city, could possibly come together to make this plot move on. Like I said, if nothing else, this book was interesting and shows what talent Mr. Stevens has at imagining a complicated plot with several seemingly unrelated characters and bringing all those details together to create a very strong team.

Chasing Booty by Shannon Leigh

Chasing Booty by Shannon Leigh
Publisher: Amber Heat
Genre: Erotic Sci-Fi

Summary:
When cops can’t catch the most-wanted criminals, they hire Gaelyn. She comes from a long line of bounty hunters, including her father, uncle, and grandfather. Extensive training in weaponry, hand-to-hand combat, and adverse conditions have seasoned her into a formidable opponent against any contracted hit, whether male, female, alien, or human. She has little fear of the unknown and thrives on adventure.

Only one other hunter matches her status—Reese, a Trøndite from the small planet of Sør-Trøndalag in the Capricornus Sector. And the man has a knack for stealing her contracts. Both cunning and gorgeous, the mix doesn’t seem quite fair. But attractiveness holds little power over money. Reese had beaten Gaelyn out of a half-year’s pay a scarce three months ago, and she will be damned if he outwits her again.

Thinking she’s duped Reese back onto Jupiter, Gaelyn isn’t too happy when she runs into him on Quaoar at the Blue Moon, an authentic hole-in-the-wall bar tucked at the end of a narrow alley in what would be considered the rough part of town; just the place to find her contracted hit. But Reese not only has the information she needs to find her mark, he also has a business proposal that’s too tempting to pass up. And a partnership with Reese just might prove rewarding in a way Gaelyn never expects...

My Review: Chasing Booty is a science fiction book about a human woman, Gaelyn, and a Trondite, Reese. They are both bounty hunter and nearly enemies. While Shannon Leigh did a great job of describing them in detail, especially Reese, I felt that maybe there could have been a bit more character development. Their dialogue was realistic and the plot was interesting. I enjoyed reading about all the different sorts of aliens and planets and am amazed at the imagination it takes to create such creatures and places. Gaelyn and Reese meet up and decide to partner up for this particular bounty contract, resulting in an amusing clash of tempers and scorching passion. As for the ending, I can’t help but think that there is much more to this story and I wonder if there will be a sequel coming soon.

Techno Thrall by Storm Grant

Techno Thrall by Storm Grant
Publisher: Lyrical Press
Genre: Erotic, Sci-Fi

Summary:
This man's too hard, this man's too soft, this man's just...a robot?

Detective Deyla Reckard lives in a time of communication implants and spray-on condoms. Robots are common as workers, soldiers, and pleasure-toys. And sometimes as criminals. A case of an e-companion attacking its owner makes Deyla question her firm belief that humans are good and robots are bad. Then she meets the man of her wet dreams and begins to fall in love, although who's human and who's robot, she's not sure.

My Review: Ms. Grant has penned a very powerful short with Techno Thrall. This reviewer was drawn into Deyla’s life and her frustration from the beginning. I absolutely love sci-fi pieces and Ms. Grant has definitely delivered superbly with Deyla’s story and even added a twist that this reviewer wasn’t expecting. Way to go Storm! It normally takes a bit to surprise me. So if you love sci-fi and hanker for a story about a woman trying to find love and her place in her futuristic society, this story is a must. I am happy to give Techno Thrall Four and Half Delightful Divas.

Summary:
Feeling old. Lamenting your missing libido. But oh-so-much-more: missing the only woman you ever loved.

This is Christmas for Harry Bates. Until he meets Carla Long, a widow who refuses to hide her lust for life and love—and Harry Bates.

When Carla declares her desires, Harry realizes he wants this woman…in every way. But one question makes him hesitate: What would his late wife, Maria, say?

My Review: When I first choose to review this book, I thought why not. I haven’t read a mature erotic book in while and this reviewer is a firm believer that sex doesn’t end at 50. Mr. Sutton fulfilled this need wonderfully. Harry is a likable character and Carla is perfect for him. I loved the male only perspective of this book. It’s not something I normally see and is very refreshing. I give Feels Like Old Times Four and half Delightful Divas.

Summary:
Who knows the magic in a simple kiss?

When Lucy Fox agreed at her mom’s deathbed to care for her invalid dad, she had no idea her commitment would spell loneliness. Approaching thirty with no hint of romance in her life, Lucy’s soul yearns for that fabled fairy prince to rescue her.

Thom Hill arrives on the scene, looking and acting more like an ugly frog than the princely character Lucy dreams of each night. But who knows the magic in a simple kiss? So, if you knew a wonderful strong handsome hero of a man was just one kiss away, would you do it?

Would you kiss a frog? Lucy did and GOLDIE’S BEAR tells what she got for her effort.

My Review: When I first started this book, I was drawn in by Lucy’s character. She reminded me of the inner Midwest girl that I once was, who is devoted to their family and the one that she loves. I am not normally one to bash a book but about half way through I was wondering if I would be able to do the same as Lucy and keep hitting my head against the brick wall of Thom’s pride. Unfortunately I can’t say I would. I admire her determination but to this reviewer it seemed like the story dragged before giving us the prerequisite happily ever after. Most women would’ve thrown their hands in the air and said, I quit! I’m not saying this story isn’t a good one, just one simply not to this reviewer’s taste. I give Goldie’s Bear Two and half Delightful Divas.

Point of Distraction: The Third Collection by Cindy Jacks

Point of Distraction: The Third Collection by Cindy Jacks
Publisher: Lyrical Press
Genre: Erotica

Summary:
Ana's back -- and as bad as she wants to be!

Third collection in the Point of Distraction Series.

In Ghosts of Ana Past, Ana reconnects with an old flame who stirs up memories of a more carefree time in her life. Now that Eli's set this fire, it's up to Ana to contain the blaze.

Misadventures in cougar-ing plague Ana in Boy Toy. Jake's hot, bold...and only twenty years old. But in the midst of a premature mid-life crisis, what's a girl to do?

Friends with Benefits finds Ana reeling from a family emergency. When Nikhil provides a strong shoulder to cry on, it's all too tempting to toss out that pesky platonic relationship and give in to romance.

My Review: Ana is back for a third collection of stories. Ana is a successful business woman, single, and loves to play games with men, switching lovers frequently. However, under that façade is a wounded woman who has many more issues than she even realizes. It seems that every time she gets a new lover, she has a new thought that brings another issue to the surface, making her a more likeable character for me. In the first story, I met Eli, one of Ana’s old high school boyfriends. They have a nice and very hot reunion. I also learned from this story that Ana was once an aspiring artist, something that even she had nearly forgotten. There is also a short part in the story about Jordan, her doctor lover that is overseas doing charity work. She still has quite a crush on him and I wonder if he may ultimately be the person she is going to end up with.
Jake was the subject of the second story. Jake is only twenty and had been trying to get Ana’s attention for a while. When he finally does, Ana is so flattered that she has a three week fling with him, ending in disaster. In the midst of the drama, Ana’s friendship with Nikhil deepens and is threatened when he gets a job offer in another city.

Nikhil is our flavor for the third story. After their initial meeting in a previous collection, they decided to be just friends. They have succeeded quite well until now. Ana’s mom had a heart attack and Ana is in Florida with her. Nikhil flies down to support her and in a weak, drunken moment, Ana kisses Nikhil. When they are back at home, they reconnect and make love, leaving Ana terrified that Nikhil may be getting closer to her than she has allowed any man in a long time. Ana is also quitting her job; a job that has been unsatisfying for her.

Although each story in the collections is mostly erotica, Cindy Jacks gives me a deeper glance of Ana with each one. Ana is becoming more real and less slutty with each story, making me think that there are big plans in store for Ana in the future.

Point of Distraction: The Second Collection by Cindy Jacks

Point of Distraction: The Second Collection by Cindy Jacks
Publisher: Lyrical Press
Genre: Erotica

Summary:
One good distraction deserves another...and another and another.

Delving further into the life and times of Ana Welsh, the second book in the Point of Distraction series brings a new set of challenges.

In Dirty Pool, Ana Welsh meets an unusually attractive man. Despite seeming to reciprocate Ana's interest, Jordan Christiansen remains aloof and passive. After a few misread signals, it's up to Ana to find out just what game this sexy mystery man is playing.

The Road Less Taken finds Ana taking advice from a massage therapist, who tells her she needs to step outside her comfort zone. Charming and enigmatic, Nikhil might just fit the prescription, but Ana vows to maintain a friendship only. As the sexual tension builds, will she decide to give in to her desires?

Alone in a Crowd exposes the pitfalls of a bottle of tequila, a little black book and drunk-dialing. With four dates in three days, not to mention a surprise visit from her ex, Miguel, Ana discovers she's overbooked her weekend. Even with all this attention, Ana can't help but feel something-or someone-is missing.

Warning: This book contains lots of detailed, hot lovin', a sassy, sexy heroine, an alternate use for a pool table, and a veritable boy buffet. Love can take a lot of practice to get it right

My Review: In the first story, Ana meets Jordan. She feels a connection with him and in the following days, is shocked because he doesn’t call her as she expected. She finally gives in and calls him and they have a nice date, followed by more days of moping. This is not like Ana, because she is a game player, enjoying her different lovers. When they reconnect once again, things go very well. She realizes that Jordan feels the same way, expecting her to be the one that calls.

In the second story, Ana has a horrible day and is also having a dry spell. Jordan is gone for a while and she doesn’t have any interesting prospects. Her manicurist recommends a man that will massage her and help her clear her chakras. After her massage, Ana breaks down and I was given an in-depth look at Ana. It has been hinted in previous stories that maybe Ana is not as happy being a game player as she lets on. The more I get to know her, the more I think that she is a lady that has been hurt and plays this game of hers to avoid that again, while telling herself that she enjoys the game and the lovers. Her massage therapist has a get-together at his house for his clients, where Ana meets Nikhil. He is gorgeous, but after her session with her massage therapist and his advice to her, she decides to forgo her normal game play and becomes friends with him.

In the third story, Jordan returns for one night. Ana enjoys him and feels something for him that she doesn’t normally feel for men. When he has to leave town again in the morning, Ana drops him off at the airport and then goes and gets herself very drunk. The next morning, Ana learns that during her drunken stupor, she called several people, including Miquel, a past boyfriend. She decides to avoid him and schedules a date with Darcy, her “friend” from Florida, on Thursday. She then gets a call from Johnathan her British “friend” and schedules a date with him on Friday. Her weekend is exhausting and she had a lot of fun and even more sex, but she can still not get Jordan out of her head. I am beginning to wonder if Jordan will be the man that will finally settle Ana down, once and for all. Of course, as long as she is thinking that she is emotionally a man, I can’t see that happening.

Cindy Jacks continues to entertain me and heat me with tales of Ana’s conquests. I am beginning to like Ana more and more and even feel a little sorry for her. She is playing a lot of games, but under that, she is a wounded woman getting love the only way she knows how, by staying unattached. Ms. Jacks does a very good job of giving us realistic dialogue and characters and scorching the pages with Ana's conquests!

Point of Distraction: The First Collection by Cindy Jacks

Point of Distraction, The First Collection by Cindy Jacks
Publisher: Lyrical Press
Genre: Erotica

Summary:
So many men, so little time...Ana's been driven to distraction. First in a series of four collections.

Welcome to the world of Ana Welsh, a thirty-something executive with money, a good career, and good friends. The last piece to the puzzle is a good man. Come along with her through the first three of twelve "episodes" featuring new challenges and often, a new lover.

Meet Miguel, Latino bad-boy and musician who twelve years Ana's junior. Siempre Mia follows the couple as they indulge in a night of glamor, sex, and decadence, but what does Ana do when he starts pressuring her for more than their casual relationship?

In Business with Pleasure, Ana crosses paths with Jonathan Locke, a polished businessman from the UK. He's smart, funny, and has a taste for the finer things, especially Ana. A comedy of errors conspires to keep them from consummating their passion for each other.

The final story, Games People Play, Ana happens into an altercation on the street. Darcy Jameson comes to her aid, strolling in like a hero from a B-movie. This white knight quickly proves to have sexy dark side Ana can't wait to help him explore.

Warning: Contains explicit sex and some graphic language

My Review: Point of Distraction: The First Collection is just as the summary says; it is a collection of erotic stories involving one woman, Ana, and a different man. In the first story, I met Ana and Miguel. Ana is a high-power executive and Miguel is a younger musician. Ana begins to feel tender feelings for Miguel and he feels the same. Ana does not allow herself feelings of love much, because she was hurt and she also likes her freedom and trying out new lovers. Ana allows Miguel to move in, but she knows that it is just temporary.

In the second story, I met Jonathan, a British businessman, who is smart and funny. Although these two have a hard time getting together without endless and annoying interruptions, they finally reach their mutual goal.

In the final story, Ana is visiting her parents. She has a friend, Darcy, whom she meets with when she is in town. They have the classic friends with benefits relationship. Darcy is generally a sweet and gentle lover, but this time, they try out a little light BDSM, which makes for an exciting night for both of them.

Overall, this book was a good hot read. Ana looks really good for her age and is attracted to and attracts younger sexy men. She doesn’t like commitment and enjoys having different lovers as much as she enjoys the finer things in life.
