Whispering Lake by Jessica Coulter Smith

Whispering Lake by Jessica Coulter Smith
Publisher: Wild Horse Press
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Summary: While on vacation with some friends, Cassie finds herself drawn to a handsome stranger. Hoping she will finally have a shot at a normal life, she allows herself to care for Cole. When things get hot and heavy, Cassie's spectral best friend Matt materializes - literally.

Cole is secretly a werewolf... will Cassie be able to handle the truth? Or will the fact that he turns furry turn her off...

More importantly, will Cole be able to handle Cassie's psychic abilities? With ghosts popping up here and there, will they have a shot at a real romance? Or will he turn out to be like the others and run the other way?

Cassie has a choice to make. Will she choose the hottest werewolf of all, or the ghost of her dreams?

My Review: I must admit this story had me hooked from chapter three. I could not put it down; I had to read it from cover to cover.

Cassie and Matt are amazing hero and heroine. The secondary characters played such a huge roll in this book. I would love to see them have a book of their own.

Cassie is so innocent she does not know how to handle all the attention by the opposite sex. She finds herself surrounded by Alpha Males. Her character is sweet, sassy, and fun. I, for one, was screaming, “Go for it, Cass!”

Matt, the true gentleman, is ready to protect the woman of his heart. It was nice to have the hero be a little more old school. But first, he needs to get to her. I was interested in the past as well as the here and now as Cassie and Matt share their stories with each other. I would have love to see the Spencer house, *sigh*. I have a thing for old houses.

Once you think you have this book all figured out, Jessica Coulter Smith throws another curve. She keeps you guessing until the last chapter is read. This is one suspense that will keep you guessing where this one will end and with whom Cassie will end up with.

Jessica Coulter Smith is romance at it's best! Miss Coulter Smith writes sweet words with just a hint of naughty thrown in to make you squirm. Whispering Lake is not your normal paranormal; it's better. You never know where a trip to the lake might take you. I know I can not wait to see what other secrets Ashton Grove holds.

Run Wolf by Keith Melton

Run Wolf by Keith Melton
Publisher : Samhain Publishing
Genre: Urban Fantasy

Summary: One choice means heartbreak. The other, death.

Nightfall Wolf Clans, Book 1

Leah Kendrick is guilty of only one crime: loving her human mate, Tom, enough to give him the gift of The Bite. The Pack council is merciless, and the punishment swift. In an instant everything she’s ever known is ripped away, and they’re turned out into the long winter with nothing. No money, no car, and no protection from a variety of creatures who’d like nothing more than to take down a lone wolf.

Friendless and broke, they form a daring plan to take back what’s theirs and chase safety north. But the Pack has other ideas. And with time running out it’s about to call their bluff…

Warning: Contains savage werewolf combat, defiant love, graphic violence/language/sex, kangaroo trials and unrepentant criminal havoc.

My Review: This was an intriguing paranormal that had me captivated. I felt the struggle Leah had when she picked Tom over her pack. The hardships they endure to keep themselves alive kept me enthralled.

Leah is an outcast in this book, but I am in awe with her. She is strength and passion. I so enjoy a man like Tom that can make a girl smile even when their butts are on the line. Picking one’s mate has never been easy, but could it be deadly as well?

I think what drew me more to this book is I have never read a wolf book in which the woman is the main character ahead of the hero; I so enjoyed that. I am excited to have been able to review this first installment of this series. Book #2 hopefully will be out soon, I cannot wait

Run Wolf is a fast paced, edge of your seat, exciting paranormal that had this reviewer wanting to know what happens next.

Keith Melton is brilliant! He brings a fresh new feel to the paranormal world; definitely an author to watch. Now that the events have taken place and put in motion, one wonders how Leah and Tom are going to fare next. Stay tuned.

Betraying the Prince by Debra Kayn

Betraying the Prince by Debra Kayn
Publisher: Red Rose Publishing
Genre: Contemporary, Interracial/Multicultural

Summary: Raised by the Prince of Antaka, Celina Rodriquez, is forced to leave the island and live life in America. Refusing to follow in the footsteps of her mother, she promises herself she will not fall for the charms of any American.

When Drake is asked to teach the Antakian princess the way women in California live, he thought he'd be busy teaching her about movies, yachting, and the local fashion. Instead he finds himself losing his heart to a woman who swears she has sexual moves that will rock his world, and thinks nothing of walking around naked.

My Review: I must admit this story started out slow for me but picked up nicely. Betraying the Prince is a sweet love story from the other side of the world, but still a man’s world.

This book created a chain reaction that had you connecting with the characters and their emotions. Celina Antakian, princess, longs to find the truth about why she was treated differently but in the end, the truth maybe more then she can handle.

I was drawn to Celina as I read on, watching her life unfold, the trials that came her way. Her strength poured off the pages as well as her passions. She sure does know how to create mischief.

Drake is the perfect hero in this story; he keeps cool under pressure no matter what the situation is, even when a hot princess forgoes wearing clothes. As Drake and Celina grow close, you get to watch their love blossom. Their attraction for each other burns off the pages.

I enjoyed the suspense and the romance. Super strong second level characters, Charles, Nat, and the prince helped make the story whole.

This story has a sweet touch with heat and passions without all the detail. Betraying the Prince is pure sweet magic the calls to you.

Debra Kayn writes a powerful love story that leaves you wanting more. Anytime a author can capture a readers attention and hold it till the last page is well worth the read and the return to a wonderful romance.

Wicked Wednesday

Here we are peeps at the end of the month and summer. Just a few short months ago we were screaming for the warmth of summer days and now, well it's starting to get down right cold again.
This week is the last time we will be talking to the authors of Immortal Fire, too. But we are leaving the best for last. Our guest for today is the author of such titles as Blood of the Dark Moon, Blood and Mint Chocolates, The Longest Night, and now Dawn of the Seraphs.

Please welcome Adrianne Brennan!

Amanda: Good Morning Adrianne, welcome to Wicked Wednesday, I’m glad you could make it!
Adrianne: Morning Amanda! Thanks for the warm welcome. It's good to be here. :)

Amanda: Shall we jump right in?

Adrianne: Go right ahead! :D

Amanda: You are a member of Romance Writers of America, RWA for short. I have read positive and negative comments about the organization. What would you say to the people who think RWA is a bunch of conceded women who have nothing better to do than tear young or inexperienced writers apart?

Adrianne: I'm no longer a member. *grin* I let my membership lapse this year as I saw no support for ebook writers. That was my biggest gripe about the group, that and their definition of romance between solely between a man and a woman. I write GLBT erotica and erotic romance, and my characters are frequently what I call "gender-blind".

Amanda: In your bio you talk about a story you have been working on for a while now, do you think we will ever see the final product?

Adrianne: Eventually, yes! It's taken a back seat to finishing two series and several small projects. Such is a writer's life! I only wish I had more hours in the day to write; I could get more done!

Amanda: When you have a free moment to sit back and read, what books do you like and who is your favorite author?

Adrianne: My favorite authors include Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore, LA Banks, Charlaine Harris, and Yasmine Galenorn. I read anything from mysticism/philosophy texts to m/m and f/f erotica. The bulk of what I read is all within the paranormal, science fiction, and fantasy genres but I've been known to branch out for a good author every now and again.

Amanda: Of all the books you have written, which is your favorite and which one was the hardest to write?

Adrianne: My favorite was Blood and Mint Chocolates. I love the chemistry between Merideth and Kalia! They're very free-spirited, and they both have fun and have a lot of passion towards each other. I just love their relationships!

The hardest book to write was my first, Blood of the Dark Moon. I originally envisioned it as being a single story, but it grew to near epic proportions, and I knew it wouldn't be told in one book unless that book was 300k in length! I also put my main character through a lot, but I'm proud of where she wound up. She's a very strong, solid lady and I look forward to her further evolution in future books.

Amanda: When you are not writing, what do you like to do with your free time?

Adrianne: I watch anime, watch and read scifi/fantasy/paranormal shows and books, go out on my bicycle, go to wine tastings, work out on my elliptical, knit, travel, play role playing games online, cuddle with my kitties...I live a pretty full life and have way, way too many interests. Prioritizing is the key! :)

Amanda: Who is your favorite character in Dawn of The Seraphs?

Adrianne: Oh, that's tough. I've really grown fond of both Tamar and Kir. They're both very different, yet very similar people, and their relationship is very much what happens when two stubborn Alphas get together and have epic chemistry. It's just that how they express themselves and how they want to accomplish their goals that greatly differ, and provides a good deal of backdrop for some intense friction.

I also admit a good deal of love for Chelsea, Tamar's good friend. I'm tempted to give her a spin-off story.

Amanda: Finally, which of your characters is wicked and which would be naughty?

Adrianne: Kir is wicked. Tamar is naughty. At times, this can switch. :D Both of them are rule breakers, but it's what rules to break and how they choose to break them that provide some interesting, shall we say, "debates".

Amanda: Thank you for spending the day with me, I had a lot of fun and I hope you did too!

Adrianne: I did indeed! Thanks a bunch for having me here today! :D

You can visit Adrianne at her website.

I'm excited to announce that Adrianne has given us two excerpts from Dawn of the Seraphs!

Blurb:

Tamar is a Seraph, a member of an influential organization of powerful psychics known as ANGEL. Seraphs are humans who have evolved to have varying psychic abilities. Possessing a greater lifespan and intelligence than ordinary humans, Seraphs within ANGEL grow to their full potential through study and practice.

In the year 4287 on planet Earth, ANGEL has deteriorated to become the harbor of the bored elite. A small but passionate rebellion rises to take back the power they once held. In pursuit of his own dreams, Tamar is caught in the chaotic struggle for evolution, power, and to define the greater good.

Kir, an old rival from his days as an apprentice within ANGEL, resurfaces, threatening to shred Tamar’s world into bits...along with his heart. Their ideals clash, and a bitter fight ensues between them. Can Tamar’s courage save Kir from the darkness which plagues him while remaining true to himself and what he holds dear?

Excerpt 1:

“I chose you for this mission for a reason. You’ve got potential, serious potential. And it disgusts me to see you squander it on petty bullshit assignments. You’re wasting away in ANGEL, Tam, and it’s not right.”

Now he’s feigning concern. Does he think I’m stupid? Does he think I don’t remember how he treated me all throughout my time in ANGEL academy? “Oh, I get it, all right.” Tamar let out a short laugh. “You think I’m pathetic. When this is all over, you’ll have your laugh, I’m sure.”
Kir just grinned at him. “If I wanted to laugh, I’d be laughing now. Trust me.”

Something inside Tamar snapped, and his left first shot forward in an attempt to punch Kir in the face. But Kir was too fast for him, and he managed to get both of Tamar’s wrists pinned to the wall.

The rest of the motions went by in a blur. Tamar struggling, Kir shouting. Kir’s face smashing into his own. By accident? No, not by accident. Kir’s lips on his. The touch seared Tamar to the core. Their mouths pressed together, and both heat and tongues mingled into a delightful haze.

Oh hell, this can’t be happening. Kir is kissing me...?

And oh, it felt good. Tamar was on fire, his cock hard and throbbing in his pants. How long had it been since he had a partner? Way too long.

The air smelled of spice, sex, and sweat. Tamar could make out the underlying hint of cloves from Kir’s cologne. Wrists now free, his hands tangled themselves in Kir’s hair. Ha, it won’t be neat anymore after this. Bet he frantically combs it after sex so he doesn’t have bedhead.

Kir ripped open the front of Tamar’s pants and yanked them down, freeing his erection from the bondage of clothing.

(I’m dying to find out how you taste. Shall I find out?)

Tamar sucked in his breath. Was this Kir’s intention all along? Blow his mind, then blow him? I’ll never understand this guy as long as I live, and I’m going to be living a damned long time....

Excerpt 2:

Irritated, Tamar struggled not to drum his fingers on the desk before him. He didn’t want to look like one of the non-activated—those impetuous, immature students back in the halls of the ANGEL academy who had yet to have their "Archangel" DNA turned on. After all, he was one of the activated. He had earned his extended lifespan through countless years of trials, study, and discipline.

But the female official before him tried his patience. She might be pretty if she showed any emotion. Or passion. Or any amount of ambition whatsoever to do anything besides sitting behind a desk.

Tamar read her name badge: “Alia”. The woman’s auburn hair packed tight into a bun. Her smooth features and bright but bored brown eyes would’ve placed her age at around maybe twenty-two, twenty-five Terran years at most. But like him, she was a Seraph and had undergone the necessary psychic development and training at the academy. Perhaps she graduated years ago—decades, even. In fact, it was quite conceivable she had a few centuries on him.

It would explain her unhurried, apathetic countenance while she reviewed the myriad of datadocs required to process his application. In Tamar’s experience, the longer one stayed inside the walls of ANGEL, the more complacent one got. Deadline? Schedules? What was time to someone whose lifespan was immeasurable?

He couldn’t wait to get out of there.

“Do you have Form 31-B filled out?” Alia inquired in a monotone which grated on Tamar’s ears.

Tamar gritted his teeth. “Yes.” He made a few quick strokes on his datapad and sent the information to Alia’s computer.

Maybe she is the computer.

“Excellent. You’re now approved.” She smiled, but her eyes remained blank. It took every measure of Tamar’s training and self-control to not let down his shields, even for a peek, to see what really went on beneath her uninterested surface. If caught, the disciplinary actions he would face afterwards wouldn't be worth it. Not to mention it would nullify all of the datadocs he just had reviewed and approved over the past several hours, and the hard-earned clearance would be revoked.

Not worth it not worth it not worth it not worth it.... He forced a polite smile onto his face. “Thank you.”

All that just to be allowed to use my abilities outside of ANGEL. How fragging fantastic.

Bite Me by Honey Jans

Bite Me by Honey Jans
Publisher: Red Rose Publishing
Genre: Erotic Paranormal

Summary: A nibble…a bite…it feels so right.

Cherish McCloud is a fake psychic with a secret talent she doesn’t want to acknowledge. Lucian Masters is a vampire with a price on his head on a mission to avenge his sister. When they meet after midnight sparks ignite. But will a demon lord with a grudge be able to prevent an alliance that was written in the stars? Or will Cherish and Lucian fall in love at first bite?

My Review: Bite Me by Honey Jans is a compelling story filled with twists and turns, making you want to read more. I immediately liked Cherish, her spunk and outgoing attitude drew me in. I also liked Lucian with his alpha male attitude and the care he has for Cherish. Their back stories added to their believability. I found how Cherish first thought Lucian was a dream an interesting take.Cherish's side job is as an erotic writer, I thought this was a neat add in. Bite Me is a good story with great characters. I'd definitely read other stories by Ms Jans as well.

Primal Passions by Stephani Hecht

Primal Passions by Stephani Hecht
Publisher: eXtasy Books
Genre: Erotic GLBT, M/M, Paranormal

Summary: Jacyn had always considered himself a pretty normal guy. Little did he know that he couldn’t be more wrong. Attacked by a group of gunmen, he suddenly finds himself shot at, kidnapped and chained to a wall. Not exactly the kind of day a normal guy has. All he knows is that all of it is somehow connected to his birth family. Rescued by a tall dangerous looking stranger who claims to have been sent by his long-lost family, Jacyn doesn’t know whether to run with him or away from him. Especially when the stranger claims to be able to shift into a jaguar.

The last thing Logan wants is to be rounding up some stray jaguar shifter, but he has never refused an order. Even as he tells himself the mission will be a snap, he finds himself having to launch a one-cat rescue party when Jacyn gets himself captured by their enemy.

As the two males run for their lives, they find that not only are they having to battle their enemy, but they are also fighting a growing attraction to each other. Passion is the last thing they should be thinking about, however. Because if they don’t keep their attention focused on the enemy, they could very well pay the ultimate price.

My Review: As a fan of Stephani, actually let me correct that, as Stephani’s biggest fan, I had to give her newest series a try. Let me tell you, it so doesn’t disappoint! Primal Passions will make you scream for your own wild untamed shifter.

The story starts out as an average day for the average paramedic out in the field. All too soon though, average becomes insane as a domino effect of gun fire and claws begin to tumble around the hot little jaguar, Jaycn. The Ravens are after him but with no memory of why, he has to rely on the help of one hot, amazingly sexy jaguar, Logan.

This was a wonderful tale where the sexual chemistry between Jaycn and Logan play into the storyline. Although they are tasked with finding the remaining members of Jaycn’s family, they hit rough patches because the ever sneaky, ever elusive Ravens are one step ahead.

Around every corner we get to know the shifters and their lives. Steph writes with an ability to show family connections and family dynamics to rival even Nora Roberts. Mitchell leads his brothers and sister with an iron fist, but also with love. He knows that more of his family is out there and it’s just a matter of time before they are found. He says to himself over and over again, I’m not letting them go for anything in the world. On one hand that is wonderful, but on the other, it can harm the ones he loves the most.

Brent and Cassie are adorable. I’m sure they wouldn’t like being called that, but their quick wit, banter and protectiveness makes them all the more likable. Their ability to love sight unseen is amazing, and although it has been more than twenty years since they have seen their brother, it’s like he never left.

One other character I cannot wait to get to know more about is Rat. Peeps, don’t let the name fool you. This delicious shifter will sooner tear your throat out than tell you he loves you. I am sure when we are able to hear the story of his life, we will need extra boxes of Kleenex. For some strange reason Steph, I can hear Patrick Swayze saying; “No one puts my Rat in the corner, no one.” Curious, huh Steph? LOL!!!

If there is anything negative about this story, it’s the cliff hanger effect Steph has come to perfect. I really shouldn’t be surprised. Stephani has a way of sucking you into her stories and just when you think you know what happens, she slaps the book closed on your nose and says, too be continued. (Hey Steph, my nose hurts, can ya help a sista out?)

So peeps, if you are looking for hot m/m passion infused with an action packed adventure, grab Primal Passion by Stephani Hecht. You’ll thank me for it!

Hot Dads: The DILF Anthology by Various Authors, edited by Lori Perkins

Hot Dads: The DILF Anthology by Various Authors, edited by Lori Perkins
Publisher: Ravenous Romance
Genre: Erotic GLBT, M/M, Anthology

Summary: DILF's. They're everywhere. That hot director, the guy next door, your old hockey coach, even your own husband?. Gay and straight and even bi. You'll find 13 stories of hot dads in these sizzling pages, from spy dads to a dad who has a thing for orgies! We promise that after reading HOT DADS! you will never look at that hunky guy in the business suit and the wedding ring the same way again!

Contributors include:
Elizabeth Coldwell, Taria, Alexandra Rowan, Jincey Lumpkin, Esq., John Jockel, Savannah Chase, D. L. Jackson, Em Brown, Bryce Wood, Jen Bluekissed, Zille Defeu, Jefferson

My Review: I have often wondered what makes single dads more appealing or unique to a single woman. I believe all men are attractive in their own way, but being a dad gives them that extra oomph. To me there is nothing sexier than a man playing with their kids. It pulls at my heart strings and it makes me pause and ask, if he is like that with the kids, how will he treat me?

With that said, I choose this book to see how close Hot Dads came to the real “Dads” in today’s society. I have to say that I was surprised and also disappointed. I thought I could show a couple of the really good stories and then maybe show a couple of the stories that just threw me off a little and left me asking, “Why?”

Cloaks, Daggers and Diapers by D.L. Jackson: Have you ever tried being an international spy while taking care of an infant? No? Well how about being an international spy, and while on assignment you find out you have a baby because the mother hands her off to you and walks away? Welcome to Derek James’ life.

Derek works for the U.S. Government, always undercover and always moving around. Now with a baby in one hand and the Russian mob on his tail you have to wonder, can he change a dirty dipper?

This story had me from the word go. I laughed as an ex-flame unceremoniously drops baby Anna in Derek’s arms and walks away. Anna is an adorable baby who knows just when to make her presence known. I laughed as she chewed on his fine silk ties and shirts. I sighed to myself, welcome to a mom’s world...and men wonder why everything we mom’s wear is wash and go.

He is charged with protecting a young woman who knows the inner workings of the mob, and in doing so, falls for her. Let me tell ya, if you can have a bucket of ice around when you read this short, do so. The sex is amazing and left me blushing.

For a short it is a brilliant tale and it makes me wonder, will we be seeing more of our hero Derek James, and baby Anna, or was this just a one time deal?

The second story I really liked was, Taking Chances by Savannah Chase. Sometimes women and men can make decisions they regret and try to make amends for their transgressions; this is a story of forgiveness and starting over.

Ben is a single dad, who at first didn’t know about his baby. The first he learned about his child was a summons to release his rights to the baby. The mother, after learning she was terribly sick, terminates the proceedings and hands the baby over to Ben to raise on his own. With the help of his best friend, he learns to love and trust again.

I shook my head in disgust when I read the opening to this story. How can a mother not want the father to know their child exists? Sure, I can understand in those rare cases of abuse or criminal behaviour you would walk away, but that wasn’t the case here.

I was Ben’s biggest champion while I read his tale. I wanted him to get the girl and make his family whole. Although you never know how two people will react to the confession of love, you always hope it is the right reaction.

Ms. Chase created a world where both people love each other, but until they take a trip and make love for the first time, they don’t realize it. Although not as hot as Cloaks, Daggers and Diapers, it leaves you sighing with contentment. Overall, I thoroughly loved this tale.

The final story in the anthology that I enjoyed was The Pick-Up by Taria. Moms, how many times have you seen a good looking dad waiting in line at your child’s school? You glance in his direction checking him out, and when that final bell of the day rings and all the rug rats come bounding out of school, you lose sight of him. You always wonder what if, or day dream about his hard body pressed against yours...*sigh* Anyway, that is what this story is about.

Only the dad is your husband, and it’s the other mothers telling you about their hot fantasies.

Peg takes a shine to Terry, a dress down mom who quickly strikes up a conversation about the hot dad who is pacing in front of their respective children’s school. As the story unfolds, Terry is treated to the latest gossip on how the women feel about him.

When the bell rings...well that would give away the best part, but needless to say the father is hot and the sex scene is amazing.

I guess you’re asking yourself right now, if this is the calibre of stories in this book, how is it that any of them aren’t as good? I asked myself the same question, but here we sit and there are bad ones too.

Construction Paper Hearts by Jincey Lumpkin, Esq.

When I began reading this story, I wasn’t sure if I was reading through a male’s perspective or a female’s. The main character is intrigued by one couple in particular, a lesbian couple. I learned a little bit later that the perspective was from a female, the teacher, Miss Tara.

As the story goes on, I began to pull away; it was like watching a train wreck. I kept reading, trying to look away, but in the end I couldn’t. The main character goes back and forth, “I like her, I don’t,” and it made my head spin.

There are things I have learned about lesbian relationships from reading about them or from what I have seen. Most call the parent who carries the child the mother and then the spouse or partner has a different name, sometimes aunty or their name. In this relationship, Maria is called the daddy, which made me do a double take. I thought perhaps she was mistaken and Maria was actually a male. I was wrong.

In the end, the sex was forced, very choppy and it left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Four Things About a Father by Bryce Wood

This story is written in 2nd person POV. I have always wondered how you write stories this way, and technically speaking, it was actually written quite well. The problems I had with it were mostly descriptions and usage of words, take for instance this passage; “She still swears she ovulated on the spot.” To me that’s too much information, I don’t want to know you’re dropping eggs because of a smile. I also don’t want to know about him not fitting into your anus and crying because he climaxed too soon. It might just be a personal preference to me, though.

Making Time by Alexandra Rowan

We meet the main characters in a coffee house in Boston. Charity likes Mike; she is dazzled by his charm, his good looks, and the fact that he is responsible. My first thought was ok cool, these are two mature adults maybe late twenties early thirties.

I was wrong again, they were both in their early twenties and Mike has a five year old son. Fine, things happen, kids, hormones, and all of that, at least he is trying to take care of his child, which is the most important thing he can do.

So the story progresses, I liked their interaction and his son is too adorable. Charity asks about his son and how he came to have custody of him. Here is where I have the biggest problem with the story. Mike tells her that at 16 he was ready to have children. His son was planned.

I have to take a step back here because when I read that I wanted to scream, “Excuse me?” I wasn’t ready at sixteen for kids, I have asked others if they were ready at that age for kids, and they all said NO! I would have believed this story more if Ms. Rowan would have had the teenage parent admit that it was a mistake, but that he would not trade his son for anything.

This was something you couldn’t take out of the story, it has to be there in order for it to make sense, but for me it killed any warm and squishy feelings I may have felt.

I am sure you are all asking yourselves what about the other seven stories in the anthology? Well, each of those fell in between these stories, some were good and some were just bad.

I have a problem with being told, step-by-step, how to have sex. I also have a problem with magic condoms. They appear out of nowhere and they appear on a man’s penis without opening the package.

Some of the places where the couples end up having sex are also a little out there. I know you can have sex just about anywhere, but outside your daughters dance, or in a gym storage closet?
Finally, I also have to say this, if a woman can climax like a guy, I guess the correct term is squirts, tell me once, but not several times over and over. You don’t have to tell me she drenches you, and the bed, the couch, the floor, or the tub. I mean that’s just TMI!

So, if you want a few stories that are really good, but you have to search through the bad ones, this is the book for you. Sometimes, the good outweighs the bad, but this time, not so much for me.

Jasmine's Urban Cowboys by Laura Ashton

Jasmine's Urban Cowboys by Laura Ashton
Publisher: Siren-Bookstrand, Inc.
Genre: Erotic Western Menage, M/F/M

Summary: After a nightmare marriage and a bitter divorce, Jasmine is ready to celebrate big time. Jaz meets Ted and Gabe, two deliciously attractive, available men.

Having spent a celibate year waiting for her divorce, waking up in the arms of a gorgeous hunk after a night of hot sex was at the top of Jaz's list. Either of these dreamboats would be wonderful, but which one? When she has trouble deciding, Jaz makes the decision that if either of them would be good, then both of them would be twice as good!

With that thought burning into her psyche, Jaz returns determined to seduce not one, but both of the ready and willing studs. What follows is a sexy, sometimes humorous story where the things that happen that night entwine all their lives, changing them forever.

My Review: I’m not sure how I feel about the story to tell you the truth. It’s not that I didn’t like it, or that the characters and sex weren’t intriguing, it just left me scratching my head really.

I love stories where the girl gets the guy or vice versa, but this time around, it was too fairy tale-ish. I know Jaz goes through a horrid divorce and now she feels liberated, which is a yay moment for me; because I have been where she is and I know how good those papers feel when you hold them in your hand. Afterwards, though, I lost all of my ability to believe in this story.

How many of us can say that our friends have set us up with two really hot guys who desperately want to be with us sexually? Not only that, but they want to cook for us…make breakfast for us the next morning? How about buying bouquet after bouquet of flowers? Not me and I’m pretty sure not very many other women.

Jaz is treated to gifts of grandeur and although she turns down a very expensive gift, these two men stay with her, asking her over and over to just love them…both of them. I just couldn’t get past their overwhelming feelings of “love,” when to me it seemed more like lust.

With all of that said, I did like the story. I love Brenda, Jaz’s friend, the most. Her life gave the book its grounding reality which it so desperately needed. I loved Camilla, she was a kind lady who went above and beyond as a grandmother and had little kinky secrets of her own.

I have to say even though the story seemed too good to be true; Jaz does keep her head on her shoulders. Her inner voice tells her to stop and take a look at the big picture, which she does occasionally. She even calls out one of her suitors because she thought he was paying her off. Though she partially listens to her inner self, she still falls for both of them and decides that maybe both are right for her.

Jasmine’s Urban Cowboys, though unbelievable at times, is still a great get away from all of your troubles. Just beware reader, this story is too good to be true! But you will love it all the same!

Mask by Jan Irving

Mask by Jan Irving
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Genre: Erotic, GLBT, M/M, BDSM, Paranormal

Summary: Hiding behind the safe mask of Obsidian, his online persona, Kain Mitchell woos Nick Anders, an untouched artist. Nick tells himself that Obsidian is merely his erotic muse, but when Kain drags him down into his dark world, echoing the myth of Hades and Persephone, Nick discovers he wants to see him, touch him, and move beyond the limitations of masks. Because as seductive as Obsidian is, Nick senses Kain’s real isolation.

Implicated for the murders of young men matching Nick’s description, Kain lives under a shadow, and troubled by the mystery, Nick pushes to get closer. Driven to prove Kain’s innocence, Nick pursues the killer with Kain’s reluctant help—and strives to become the human submissive and tender lover needed by the lonely and otherworldly warrior.

My Review: Mask by Jan Irving is a book with a very unique twist to storytelling. I have never read a book that utilized instant messaging as a technique to get into the personalities of the characters. I have to admit, it was a little odd at first, but I really grew to love it. The quick banter was fascinating and revealing as to Nick and Kain’s personalities. The way in which Jan Irving allowed the characters to have a security in the instant messaging that they didn’t have face to face really came through for me. Not only did this lead to interesting character dimensionality, it also allowed the reader to feel Nick and Kain’s insecurities in a way that I really didn’t think would be possible with this technique.

The flow of the book was well thought out, pulling the reader along from one scene to the next with no dull moments rearing their ugly heads. Jan Irving kept you guessing as to what would happen next and questioning the whole way through how there could possibly be a happy ending. Throughout the twists and turns, the reader gets to know each of these characters along the way and can appreciate their actions and reactions to events.

Any reader who enjoys paranormal suspense is likely to enjoy Mask. I am certainly interested in seeing what Ms. Irving has to share with us next.

Whispering Lake by Jessica Coulter Smith

Blurb:
While on vacation with some friends, Cassie finds herself drawn to a handsome stranger.

Cassie has a choice to make. Will she choose the hottest werewolf of all, or the ghost of her dreams?

Excerpt:
Cassie slid her hands under Cole’s shirt and up to this chest. She loved the feel of his firm smooth skin. She could feel his chest muscles ripple under her fingers and she felt his heartbeat. Cole stopped kissing her long enough to remove his shirt. Once his shirt was off, he pulled her back into his arms and kissed her again. He lifted his head and looked down at her.

“Cassie, maybe we should stop. I don’t want you to regret anything later,” he told her softly.

“I know we should, but I don’t want you to stop. I want to feel your skin against mine. I want you to kiss me until I’m out of breath,” she replied.

Cassie’s face was flushed, her lips were swollen from his kisses and her eyes were glazed with passion. Cole wasn’t sure he could say no to her, and he wasn’t sure he wanted to.

“Please kiss me Cole,” she begged.

Cole bent his head to hers and did as she had requested. She was so soft and warm, and she tasted so very sweet. Cole had never wanted anyone more than he wanted Cassie. His desire for her wasn’t just physical like Michael’s had been. He craved her body and soul.

He lifted the hem of her sweater and rubbed his hand across her soft belly. Her skin felt like silk. His finger tips drifted higher and brushed against the underside of her breast. Cassie gasped and arched against him. Even if Cassie wasn’t one-hundred percent sure of what she was doing, her body knew exactly what it wanted.

Cole pushed her sweater further up to expose her breasts. He looked at the lavender satin and gently ran his thumb across the material. He lowered his head to her breast and nipped her through the satin material. Cassie moaned deep in her throat. She had never felt anything like this before.

Cole trailed kisses up the swell of her breast. He kissed the hollow of her neck. Lifting his head, he looked into her eyes before reclaiming her mouth.

SNEAK PEEK

Claire Thompson's new m/m BDSM Cowboy tale!

“JD, you up there, honey? Avery’s ready to show you around.”

JD took the stairs two at a time, buttoning his denim work shirt as he went. LuAnn was standing in the front hall, looking small and older than her fifty-eight years. She gestured toward the front door. “Avery’s outside.”

Out on the porch, Avery slouched, his face partially obscured by the cowboy hat tilted low over his forehead. He had one foot up against the porch railing, the very picture of a cowboy in repose.

He straightened up when JD approached, disapproval radiating from him like a shimmering mirage. With a grunt, he turned and moved down the porch stairs, looking back with a scowl. “You comin’?”

No hello, no welcome, no nothing. JD shrugged. He enjoyed a challenge, and this guy was going to be one, no question about it.

They walked down the gently sloping hill from the house to the stable and pens, Avery slightly ahead of JD, who made no effort to catch up. Avery was wearing a black T-shirt that hugged his broad shoulders and strained at his bulging biceps. JD liked watching Avery’s ass move, and his cock stirred at a fantasy of pushing the cowboy down right there on the dirt road and taking him like a stallion takes a mare.

JD followed him into the main pen, letting the gate latch click shut behind him. “How many horses we got on the ranch these days?” he asked, mainly to make conversation as they walked into the barn.

With a slight toss of his head, Avery answered, “We have fourteen horses right now. The General is our breeding stallion. We have four mares, two geldings, two fillies and three yearlings. Plus Smokey, here.” He gestured toward Macy’s stall and the colt greedily sucking its mother’s teat.

Avery turned toward the pair, his features softening into a gentle smile that made him look suddenly very young. “How old are you?” JD asked without thinking.

The scowl returned as Avery faced him, though it didn’t diminish how good looking the cowboy was. He had dark eyes set in a tanned, angular face with prominent cheekbones and several days dark stubble over a firm jaw. His nose was snub, which made him look younger than perhaps he was, and his hair was black and straight, cut short. He wasn’t tall, maybe only five foot, nine, but every inch of that appeared to be solid muscle.

“I’m old enough to know better,” Avery snapped.

“Yeah? And just what do you know?” JD rejoined.

“I know I’ve got a ranch to run, and no time to stand around chit-chattin’. So I’ll just ask you straight out—you have much experience working around horses?”

JD shrugged. “Some, I guess. I spent a bunch of summers here when I was a teenager. I rode a lot. I helped out some. I’m sure I can learn quick. I mean, how hard can it be?”

Avery shook his head, not replying. He walked past two horses to the last stall, in which stood a regal looking animal, with large bones, a well defined neck and a beautiful coat of pure white, her mane silver in the slanting sunlight.

“Kassie’s in heat,” Avery said. “I’m going to mate her and the General today, if she’ll cooperate.” JD looked at the mare, who was pawing anxiously at the dirt, her tail flicking and eyes rolling.

“She looks agitated.”

“Yeah. Normally she’s sweet as can be. Till the PMS gets her.”

“PMS? Horses get that?”

“Pouty Mare Syndrome.”

JD laughed. “So what’s the procedure? You just put ‘em in a pen and let nature take its course?”

“Sometimes we do, but not Kassie. She’s a kicker. She ‘bout killed the General the last time he tried to mount her. The union was, uh, not successful.”

“So you’re gonna tie her down? Force her to submit?” JD said the words lightly, but he was watching Avery carefully for any reaction to the purposefully provocative words.

Avery angled his body away. “Something like that,” he replied, his voice devoid of emotion. He entered Kassie’s stall, approaching her slowly, his voice soothing and calm. He stroked her mane with one hand, while slipping the halter over her nose with the other.

Gently, he led the skittish mare out of the stall. “You can muck her stall while she’s in the mating pen. You do know how to much a stall, don’t you? Everything you need’s in the tack room.” He gestured toward the side building that was attached to the stable and, without waiting for a reply, walked out, leading Kassie behind him.

JD knew this was his first test. He headed toward the tack room, where he retrieved a pitchfork, a stable broom, a shovel and a wheelbarrow. He found some work gloves and put them on.

He could see by the patterns in the bedding that Kassie was restless—it was mostly pushed to the walls, the center nearly bare of straw. Working quickly, he scooped out the soiled bedding and manure, pushing the clean straw to one side. The wheelbarrow was nearly full by the time he was done.

Wheeling it to the manure pile, he saw Avery leading a bay stallion from the stable on the other side of the mating pen. He was a beautiful animal, with a coat of dark mahogany, his mane and tail black.

Kassie was standing by the fence, and upon closer inspection, JD saw she was tethered there, her back legs hobbled with rope. She was pawing the dirt with her front paws, turning back to gaze balefully at the General as he was led into the pen.

JD hurried back inside, eager to finish the stall before the action started. Retrieving fresh straw from the loft, he scattered it on the clay floor, blending it with what clean bedding remained.

He glanced at the wheelbarrow, telling himself he’d hose it down and put away the cleaning equipment later. He strode toward the mating pen, moving to stand beside Avery who was leaning against the outside of fence.

“Hey,” JD said, coming to stand beside him.

Avery grunted a greeting without turning to look at him. He was focused on the horses. The General was sniffing at Kassie’s tail. She tossed her silver mane and whinnied as she pulled against her restraints.

All at once the bay reared up on his hind legs, his huge, erect cock pointing like a divining rod toward the tethered mare. Falling against her, he maneuvered himself to enter her while she jerked and shimmied beneath him in a futile effort to dislodge him.

Leaning his long, powerfully-muscled neck over hers, he bit down, and Kassie stilled. Both men watched the stallion’s thrusting movements. JD glanced sidelong at Avery, wondering what it would be like to bind his ankles to the fence like Kassie’s, pulling the rope up between his legs and using it like a bridle to rein him in while he fucked him standing up.

JD moved closer to Avery, so close their shoulders were touching. Avery didn’t move away. JD could feel the electricity shooting between them like a lightning storm. If he’d dared, he would have pulled Avery close then and there and yanked down his jeans.

Instead, his eyes fixed on the mating animals, he said softly, “Imagine it, Avery. Imagine being tied down like that and taken against your will. What’s that like, do you ever wonder? What it would feel like to be bound, helpless in your restraints while someone used you for his pleasure?”
He knew he was going over the line with a man he barely knew, but his gut told him Avery would respond, based on his reaction to the pain comment the night before. JD’s cock was itching for attention and the image of Avery, kneeling right there and then to service him, only made it harder. JD couldn’t help the smile that curled onto his lips when he glanced down at Avery’s crotch, which left no question as to the effect his questions had had upon him.

Nymphomaniac Books 1-5 by Sarah Masters

Nymphomaniac Books 1-5 by Sarah Masters
Publisher: Freya’s Bower
Genre: Erotic BDSM

Nymphomaniac Book One: Hunger

Summary: Mistress Klara works in a dungeon in the heart of the city. Each short story explores one of her clients and their predilection, as well as her affliction of nymphomania.

Hunger: Mistress Klara is hungry for sex. Her client today is Harvey Lewis. Though he may sate her sexual yens, Klara is left unsatisfied in other areas of her life.

My Review: While this is an interesting short, Klara seems to be a confused woman. But then I guess having this condition would do that to a person. In this story you see her interaction with Harvey Lewis. This seems to be a way of easing you into the series. You get a look at Klara and how she goes about her job. Hunger is a nice quick read that makes you wonder what'll happen next.

Nymphomaniac Book Two: Trois

Summary: Mistress Klara entertains two men at once. However, one of her clients is addicted to her in more ways than one. Will his admission mess up her already confusing love life?

My Review: In this story Klara seems to be in over her head. One of her clients is in love with her. Again she seems confused, and I actually feel bad for her. You learn more of her inner turmoil at having nymphomania. Ms. Masters also shows us some of Klara's past, giving her a bit more realism. This story leaves you wanting to read more of this intriguing series.

Nymphomaniac Book Three: Marked

Summary: One man returns to see Mistress Klara to confirm the sentiments he made the previous day. She entertains him sexually, but does she allow his endearments to sway her line of thinking?

My Review: In Marked you get to see another side of Klara, a little bit of a darker side. Yet she does it for a reason. Ms. Masters also gives us a look at Klara's past, making us see her in a changing light. This also makes you wonder what will happen. Prodding you to continue reading the series, in order to know what Klara will do next.

Nymphomaniac Book Four: Shadows

Summary: Mistress Klara joins her roommate and work colleague, Mistress Shadow, in sexually entertaining a man who suffers from the male version of Klara’s affliction—satyriasis. However, the dilemmas in her life cannot be kept in the shadows any longer….

My Review: The farther into this series I read, the more confused and vulnerable Klara seems. You get to see even more into what drives her. Why she feels they way she does. The more I read, the more empathy I feel for her because of her affliction. In this book you finally meet the infamous Shadow. You see how they act with one another, how Shadow treats her.

Nymphomaniac Book Five: Knots

Summary: Mistress Klara entertains her final client of the week and contemplates walking away from her job. With her emotions in torment and her mind on her ties with her clients, Beautiful Luke, Mistress Shadow, and Mark, can she leave her dungeon for the last time and start somewhere new?

My Review: In Knots I finally see Klara starting to take control of her life. She seems to have more of a feel of where she wants to go. I actually felt sad at her decision and wonder if Ms. Masters will write a sixth installment. I hope she does as this story really doesn't bring much closure.
