Scarlet Myst by Jade Twilight

Scarlet Myst by Jade Twilight
Publisher: Dark Roast Press
Genre: Erotic Suspense

Review Copy Received from Author

Summary: Erin Calean, Aka Myst, is the estranged daughter of mob boss Robert Calean. She is also a stripper at the Scarlet Kitty, the newest investment of the Scarlet Arm, a brothel for the wealthy and those pretending to be wealthy. But things aren't always what they seem: the girls at the Scarlet Arms are trained killers, beautiful and deadly. Sean Uriel is the mayor's son, a rich boy with too much money and time on his hands. As a pastime he decides to kidnap girls from the upper class, and knock them down a peg or two. Unfortunately for Sean, someone becomes wise to his game, and Erin is hired to kill him. Will she be able to go through with it and kill him, or will she teach him a lesson he'll never forget?

Deb’s Review: Scarlet Myst will have you gasping by the last chapter. Jade Twilight created a world of pleasure and intrigue that will keep you spellbound until you close the book. There are a lot of main characters in this book. I would consider each to be first rate; they all have huge roles. I could not help but laugh at some points in this book.

It's a scary thing when, as a reader, I can see through Sean's eyes (bad guy) in this book and get the chills. Jade Twilight put the “eep” in creepy with this character.

I have to say “kick-butt, take names later” Erin rules Scarlet Myst. Her character had to be truly strong to carry a book like this. I enjoyed her. The emotions that Jade Twilight had Erin go through in this short were many, and from time to time, it had my head spinning. At one point I thought, okay, this is a simple rescue story. Wrong! I’m not going to say any more because I don't want to give anything away, but I will say that it gets pretty intense.

Scarlet Myst is a pleasure verses pain story that touches so many levels of intimacy.

Jade Twilight is a pure delight to be enjoyed slowly. Her books are always a pleasure for this reviewer.

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Summary: Crisscross (noun): A web of deceit entangling a bestselling author and her small son, two ex-lovers, and a killer with a knack for cruciverbalism and a thirst for revenge.

A psychic, and skeptic, and serial killer… Lia Morgan has seen portents and signs since she was a teenager; however, few people believed her, including her own family. Although estranged, Lia travels across country to aid in the search for her missing sister, Sylvie. What seems to be a simple case gets complicated fast when Lia discovers her sister had a plethora of secrets, including a small son. Is her sister running from an impending paternity case like the police assume, or is her disappearance the work of a serial killer as her friends suspect?

An anthropologist and crossword puzzle fanatic, Jared Trimble is a packrat with a PhD. His world is grounded in the here and now, with no room for paranormal mumbo-jumbo. When Jared's asked to work as a consultant on a missing person's case involving a series of crossword puzzle clues, he's conflicted. One part's thrilled. The other part is suspicious; worried he fits the description of suspect more than investigator. All that is forgotten when he realizes his ex-lover, Lia Morgan, is the missing woman’s sister. While Lia follows signs and portents, Jared uses his wits and experience. When the two collide, nearly forgotten passions flare. As the final clue is revealed, the solution brings them both into the bull’s-eye of the serial killer's target.

Jordan’s Review: I thoroughly enjoyed Crisscross by Ericka Scott. It was a nice change of pace from the usual romantic suspense. The aspect of the heroine being a psychic and her sister’s lifestyle added to the overall good feel of the piece. Though the villain is revealed prior to the black moment of the story, it in no way diminishes the suspense. You don’t know if Sylvie and her son will escape or if Lia and Jared will figure out just who has taken her sister and nephew.

The characters are well rounded; real people that come to life on the pages of the story. The plot is just tight enough to work while giving plenty of room for character development. The villain is as evil as one might expect and worse than some I’ve read. The story flows well and kept me reading until the end. The epilogue, winding the plot up, is an unexpected nice piece of writing.

Take a chance and read this story. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. I’ll be checking for other stories by Ericka Scott to add to my collection of good books.

Summary: Jeanette Wilson is an American girl on the trip of a lifetime to the wine regions of France. Unfortunately, she's trapped with her soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend Daryl, a self-absorbed, self-aggrandizing, self-styled wine expert bent on swirling, sniffing, sipping, swishing, chewing, swallowing and occasionally spitting his way through the wineries. Between his endless lectures and insufferable putdowns, her insignificant other is quickly turning her dream vacation into a nightmare.

But things change for Jeanette once they come to the zenith of their French road trip, the Champagne house of Chateau Roux-Dubois. Their hosts, Amaury and Marie-Elise Roux-Dubois, turn out to be both charming and attractive, and go out of their way to extend a warm welcome to her. And they make it very clear that it is she, not Daryl, who is their special guest, particularly when the striking Marie-Elise takes Jeanette down to the wine cellar for a very personal tour, followed by an unusual French lesson from Amaury.

When she and Daryl are invited to stay and participate in the harvest festival, Jeanette finds herself caught up in a ménage a trois with the Roux-Dubois, both intent on teaching her many things...and not just about wine.

Melissa’s Review: Champagne by Inara LaVey is a witty, fun, informational and erotic adventure through France’s Wine country. I learned a lot about wine, champagne, and France while enjoying Jeannette’s sexual discoveries.

Jeannette is a fun, realistic character. I enjoyed her at every turn and in every situation. Her boyfriend, Daryl, is just a jerk and not likeable at all. The other characters in this book, Amaury, Marie-Elise, and Konan, added to the richness, passion and fun of this book.

Inara LaVey has a nice writing voice, intertwined with passion and humor. She sets a nice, steady pace in a smooth writing voice, and uses vibrant descriptions to bring the French countryside and vineyards to life in my mind. I look forward to reading more work from this talented author.

Then as a wedding planner she spent every day immersed in romance. Now she writes it! Christi’s website: http://www.christibarth.com/

Now, let’s take a closer look at Christi’s latest release from Eternal Press entitled Carolina Heat.

Carolina Heat by Christi Barth

Blurb: A workaholic journalist heads undercover to find steamy passion, steadfast friends, mortal danger...and the love of her life.

Well-known journalist Annabelle Carlyle is stunned by the personal twist of her latest assignment: her best friend Vanessa is missing. Annabelle goes undercover in the Old South to search for answers. Full of thick accents and a way of life rooted in the past, Charleston is as foreign and strange a place as any Annabelle's visited. And before she finds a single clue, she runs into a sexy man she can't shake.

Tall, dark and charming, Mark Dering is happy to show the gorgeous Yankee his hometown. He's captivated by the quick witted, quick tempered redhead. But when they're shot at, he realizes she's far more than just another tourist. Soon they're knee deep in a mystery that goes all the way back to the Civil War. For once Annabelle is in over her head. Desperate to find Vanessa, she reluctantly accepts Mark's help. It isn't long before romance blooms right alongside the magnolias.

The stakes grow higher when a body is discovered. Someone is willing to kill to keep a century old Confederate secret hidden. With her best friend missing and a killer on the loose, it's the worst possible moment for Mark to try and unlock Annabelle's heart. Or is love exactly what her life's been missing?

Excerpt: He tensed, waited for a bullet to slam into his body, but nothing happened. Mark looked up and saw Jillian and Annabelle reeling in the rope, hand over hand. It felt like forever before they pulled him up the side and onto the deck. He flopped onto his back and concentrated on breathing.

“Mark, are you ok? Are you hit?” Annabelle’s voice quivered as she ran her hands frantically over his body checking for blood.

“I’m fine. Got the wind knocked out of me when the engines revved and slammed me against the boat. Think I swallowed about a gallon of river water, too.”

“What the hell is going on?” Ashby yelled over his shoulder, holding tight to the wheel. “Kind of a dramatic entrance for you. Want to fill me in? Tell me where we’re headed? And why I’m apparently stealing this boat?”

It was Annabelle who answered. “Head to the harbor. This river does connect to the harbor, doesn’t it?”

Jillian nodded. “If we use the engine instead of raising the sails we should be there in about ten minutes.”

“I haven’t navigated this part of the river in a while. Not too familiar with the layout. Might be a good idea to cut the engine and take it a bit slower,” said Ashby.

“Don’t slow down!” Mark and Annabelle shouted as one.

“Why not?”

Mark pulled himself to his feet and tucked Annabelle securely against his side, still gasping greedily for air. “Because someone tried to kill us. We don’t want to wait around and give them a second chance.”

That is a very dramatic excerpt you’re teasing us with Christi! Carolina Heat looks very vivid and enthralling. I’m sure you’re all wondering where you can get your hands on a copy. Here is the buylink for this lovely book:

Summary: Dino Martini might accept his friend Seth as a lover--if they can stay alive. Dino Martini is an old-school P.I. in a modern age. Sure, he may do most of his work on a computer, but he carries a gun, drives a convertible, and lives on the beach. Best friend and mechanic Seth Donnelly will back him in a fight, and there's not a lot more Dino could ask from life.

Until his world is turned upside down.

A dangerous case and a new apartment are just the start. His friendship with Seth has turned into a romance, only Dino has never had a boyfriend before. Can he handle this sudden twist? Just as he begins to believe it's possible, he loses Seth in more ways than one...

Kathy’s Review: I really, really enjoyed Elle Parker’s Like Coffee and Doughnuts. The title first appealed to me and then the summary cemented my interest; even so, I wasn’t prepared for just how much I did love the book. Suffice it to say that Elle Parker is on my search-out-other-books list; if her other work comes close to this one, then I’ll be a very happy reader!

The build-up in the story was gradual but very well done and it suited the characters superbly. Dino’s not a man to rush into anything ~ usually, anyway. But when he finds himself turning all cave-man and then mothering hen over Seth, he’s really not sure about anything any longer. The friendship between Seth and Dino was wonderful and, to my female eyes, came across as entirely realistic. I love the interplay between the two men; whether just hanging out, heading out on some repo work or finding their way through the uncharted depths of their changing relationship and budding romance, I was totally taken by the two.

And then there’s the job that caused so much of their trouble. I could see it coming, but that only made the tension more intense. When stuff finally began happening I could almost sit back and breathe a sigh of relief… almost. Elle Parker manages to build to a fine point, maintain, give the reader a bit of a break and then ~ bang! ~ leave them sitting on the edge of their seats.

Frankly, I really enjoy PI stories such as Like Coffee and Doughnuts, but the romance angle was a wonderful addition to an already stellar tale. This is not only a delightful romance with plenty of bumps and curves, after all neither Dino nor Seth had ever had a romantic ‘relationship’, but it was also a slick and dangerous adventure story. Very much character driven, but without the plot, Ms. Parker’s story would not have the richness and depth that it does. And as I mentioned before, Elle Parker is on my backlist-search list. An excellent story no matter by which genre you may want to judge it. Give yourself a treat and pick up Like Coffee and Doughnuts, sit back ~ if you can ~ and above all else, enjoy!

Love for Christmas by Kate Hofman

Love for Christmas by Kate Hofman
Publisher: DCL Publications
Genre: Christmas/Contemporary Romance

Review Copy Received from Author

Summary: Nick and Ellie have been divorced for two years, due to the vicious machinations of Monique, his secretary, who hoped to marry him. After the divorce Nick makes it clear to Monique that he wants nothing to do with her. Unfortunately, Ellie does not know that.

When they meet, accidentally, at a hotel in the Quebec countryside, they begin to resolve their differences, and confess to each other that they did not want the divorce.

While they are in the Bar Intime, suddenly Monique appears. Is she there at Nick's invitation, as she tells Ellie, or is she stalking Nick?

How can Ellie be sure Nick is serious about her? Does he really want to marry her again, as he says -- or is he merely having a fling with her?

Deb's Review: Love for Christmas is a sweet soft love story by Kate Hofman. This story is soft yet passionate with a little something for everyone.

Nick and Ellie captured my heart because their characters are so intense. They felt very genuine as the story of lovers lost unfolds. Ellie is a brave lady willing to give into what she wants. I would have liked to see a little more fight—a little more battle—with her emotions on giving into Nick. I would have made him beg a little. {insert evil laugh here} Nick is just charming and so willing to do what needs to be done to capture Ellie's heart again. I did like that fact that Nick's character really dealt with his miscommunication with his wife. That is what made me enjoy this book even more, the realness of them both. Nick and Ellie will have you believing that anything is possible as long as there is love.

As for the second level characters, they were just as likeable as the top rung characters. You have the ever-so-vibrant Maddy, who I just adored. Then you have Alain, who is a rascal if I ever saw one, and Monique, the evil temptress. With these three there is never a dull moment. As for the location of places in this book, they are real places. Saint-Anne-des-Monts sounds just beautiful. When I return to Quebec this summer I am heading there to see its wonder. I have driven by the Hotel Auberge and it is truly breathtaking; Ms. Hofman captured it well.

I was charmed by the plot line and setting of this book: the Quebec countryside, sleigh rides, reunited lovers, new friends, and explosive passion.

Love for Christmas is a Christmas Romance that will last forever in this reviewer’s heart and will be re-read as well. Kate Hofman is phenomenal! An absolute delight to discover.

Devon Falls 4: Haunting Magic by Raine Delight

Devon Falls 4: Haunting Magic by Raine Delight
Publisher: Aspen Mountain Press
Genre: Erotic Paranormal

Review Copy Received from Author

Summary: Rodrick Dracon is the twin heir to the Dragon Inn. When he finds himself longing for a mate after being footloose and fancy free, he finds himself drawn to the most obnoxious, brassy woman he has ever met: Jaxon Sinclair. She is the one woman who doesn't melt when he goes by or hangs on his every word. She is just aggravating and downright sexy as sin! Soon the sparks fly, passion goes into boiling and Halloween approaches. Can a wolf shifter get this woman to heel before the full moon? Or can Jax turn the tables on this ladies man and tame the wolf?

A.J.’s Review: Love or Lust…Can one exist without the other, especially between two people who bicker whenever the opportunity presents itself?

Some consider Devon Falls a magical place where individuals with special gifts can truly be themselves. That is, provided they aren’t running from their destiny, which is exactly the predicament Rodrick Dracon, the twin heir to the Dragon Inn, has stumbled into, along with his inner wolf. Rodrick is sexy-as-sin, and has been deemed the town’s “stud master”. He can have any woman and doesn’t have a problem with his playboy image and revolving bedroom door. At least, that’s the perception of everyone in Devon Falls. But, looks can be deceiving. In actuality, Rodrick is lonely and the wolf inside is ready to mate. Unfortunately, the wolf has chosen his arch nemesis, Jaxon Sinclair. A sexy vixen who is strong-willed and has no problem putting Rodrick in his place whenever the opportunity arises. However deep down, she lusts after the man who gave her one night of blinding passion years ago. What will it take for Rodrick to settle his inner wolf? Moreover, will Jax succumb to her lust-filled desires and discover an inner peace with Rodrick that she’s never felt with anyone else? Or, will these two defy destiny with their petty arguments and end up two lone wolves?

Although I’ve read other books by Ms. Delight, I’ve never read her Devon Falls series. But, I must admit, after reading Devon Falls 4: Haunting Magic, I’ll definitely be purchasing the rest of the books in this series. Ms. Delight has done a wonderful job of writing a short story that packs a punch. This book is sexy, and the intense connection between Jax and Rodrick is enough to keep you hot and bothered on a cold winter’s night. Rodrick is one alpha male determined to calm his inner wolf by conquering the one mate he would have never chosen for himself. Ms. Delight has created a set of characters that readers can definitely identify with, especially if you believe in the theory of opposites attract. I enjoyed the banter between Jax and Rodrick, and at times, found their situation humorous. The description of Devon Falls is so vivid in the book that I had no problem picturing the small town full of gossips, which only brought the characters to life on the page. Two thumbs up to Ms. Delight for providing readers with a sexy Halloween story that’s guaranteed to get your blood boiling from the exquisite pleasure Jax and Rodrick experience as they embrace their sexual desires and hopefully find love. That’s one alpha male I wouldn’t mind having myself.

Summary: Eric Moore seeks out the guy who had been his college lover, the one who had promised to wait forever for Eric to return, but Eric never did... until now. The man he discovers isn't the boy he left behind so long ago... Will finding Chandler mean finding love at last?

Melissa’s Review: Finding Chandler is book one in Claire Thompson’s The Solitary Knights of Pelham Bay series. Even better, it is available as a free download! This series is about a group of mature gay men who are friends. They have started their own little club, The Solitary Knights, because they have been unlucky in love and intend to remain single and enjoy plenty of sex with no attachments. In their brief introductions, Claire gives just enough insight to these men to show that they may put on a happy face, but below that smile and bravado lies broken hearts and wishes for more.

In this first book, I got a short but emotional look at Eric and Chandler. Claire does a fantastic job of bearing Eric’s soul in this novella. He is a strong man, brought to his knees. As much as I felt so much sorrow for him, I also think that he has learned his lesson and is ready to move forward in his promising future.

As a young man in love for the first time, Chandler was in awe of Eric. He gave him unconditional love, understanding and loyalty even when Eric probably did not deserve it. Now, he is all grown up and mature, and he shows his battle scars of loss.

Claire never fails to get right to the heart of her characters, making them very real and very relatable. I look forward to reading about the rest of The Solitary Knights. I am sure it is going to be a roller coaster of emotions with these men.

Genre: Erotic, Fantasy, Sci-Fi

Review Copy Received from Publisher

Summary: When Mena is transported into a strange world, she comes face-to-face with a towering seven foot tall man named Demariak. She can't help the desire that just one look from him sparks in her. When Mena is literally swept off her feet by Demariak and brought back to his home, she experiences pleasures she had only thought about in her most erotic fantasies.

Demariak is the leader of the ZorZack tribe, respected and feared by all who meet him. When he meets the beautiful Mena, he can't stop the possessiveness that consumes him. When Mena is thrust into danger and her life hangs by a thread, Demariak will do everything in his power to protect what he has already claimed as his own.

Dakota's Review: God, how I love science fiction! Only in a book like Dimi of the Seven Moons series, Book 1: Deliciously Wicked could I find an alternative world where there are beasties waiting to eat you and strong warrior men who are willing to slay the beasties to protect you. What can I say honestly about this book? I hope Jenika Snow has already started writing on the next book in this series. I absolutely loved this book despite having been left to wonder about the fate of Mena's best friend. I can't wait for the next one to come out. I'll be buying it for sure.

I loved the uniqueness of this book and how a modern woman adapted to being whisked away to an alternative plane of existence; something she did in stride despite the fear and uncertainty I'm sure she felt. Ms. Snow has done a wonderful job of crafting believable characters and even providing a bit of humor along the way. I have to say, I haven't seen chemistry between two characters any hotter than that between Denariak and Mena. Even as Denariak leads and is as demanding as would be expected from a leader, his treatment of Mena, while trying to deal with her modern woman's thinking, makes him a complex and strong character I wish I had written. Bravo, Ms. Snow! I give Dimi of the Seven Moons Series, Book1: Deliciously Wicked Five Delightful Divas and A Recommended Read!

Claiming Their Dream Weaver by Cooper McKenzie

Claiming Their Dream Weaver by Cooper McKenzie
Publisher: Siren-Bookstrand
Genre: Erotic Fantasy Menage a Trois Romance, M/F/M

Review Copy Received from Publisher

Summary: At six, Suz claimed Penn and Liam McKenzie for her future husbands. At eighteen, she promised them her virginity and all her orgasms. But at nineteen, she ended up with another man.

Now thirty, Suz is weary of her future, especially after barely surviving her ex and the practical life she'd been forced to live. When an email calls her home to Dreamer's Dell, Suz must face Penn and Liam for the first time since breaking her promise.

Penn and Liam have loved Suz since the first time they laid eyes on her. Knowing their lives are forever bound, they wait for her and wonder. Will their love be enough to invoke the magic? Will they be able to put the past to rest? Will they be able to finally claim their Dream Weaver?

Dakota's Review: I've been on a ménage a trios kick as of late, and Cooper McKenzie has definitely soothed my hunger for a hot threesome with Claiming Their Dream Weaver. I was whisked away into a world she'd created and it has me wondering if she has written more stories in this delightful line. One particular scene comes to mind and that is where Suz connects with the past history of her family. As an author myself, I can see the wealth of stories which could come from just that one scene. So if you haven't written anymore on this line, that would be a good place to start, Cooper…hint hint.

Now taking my author hat off, I can't help but gush over the book as a reader. As I said before, I've been reading quite a bit of threesomes, foursomes, you name it. If it has multiple partners, I've been reading it. Like Ms. McKenzie, I am a sucker for a Scottish accent and a man wearing a kilt. It must have something to do with my Sean Connery fetish...lol. Both the gentleness they show Suz when she's down, and the fiery passion between them, had Penn and Liam stealing my heart. These two would've stolen off with my heart if my own husband didn't already have it. If I had to have two husbands, these two would rate high on my list.

The characters in Claiming Their Dream Weaver had me breathless and I'm certainly glad Ms. McKenzie has written a sequel to this delightful story. It's currently sitting on my e-reader and waiting impatiently for me to get to it. Speaking of which…I don't know if I can resist temptation long enough to finish this review. With that being said, I would definitely recommend this book to any fans that love ménages and still want their heroes strong with a tenderness streak. A sweet but spicy novella, I give Claiming Their Dream Weaver 5 Delightful Divas and a Recommended Read!

Encounters: The Unicorn by D.B. Story

Encounters: The Unicorn by D.B. Story
Publisher: eXcessica
Genre: fantasy, erotic romance

Review Copy Received from Author

Summary: I was swindled out of everything I owned by magic, and I've never been happier in my life. So starts out the tale of Barq, a farmer (in a medieval world farming is the original oldest profession) in the fascinating world on the other side of the Enchanted Forest. Taking place in the same magical place as Encounters: CowGirl, The Unicorn tells a tale of a comfortably well-off man tricked into marrying a slothful witch. Not satisfied with half a loaf his deceitful wife schemes to gain it all by transforming him into a random animal. His childhood love of trying to catch a glimpse of the elusive unicorn leads him to believe that of the choices remaining to him, if not a man any longer, then a horse. In the end his new form leads him where his old human self never could have ventured. It's a sexy fairytale from the far side of the forest.

Dakota's Review: This delightful addition to the Encounters series was a well written story and whisked this reviewer away. Since fiction often mimics reality, I empathized with Barq as he married the wrong woman for him and ends up under the spell which changes him. Using the unique outlook from only Barq's perspective, D.B. Story tells us a strong story thick with moral value and a decidedly erotic twist. Encounters: The Unicorn reminded me of listening to the Brothers Grimm fairy tales and how each had a morale to the story. The young girl in me loved the idea of Barq seeking out the elusive unicorn as I am a fellow aficionado. I am happy to see, that there are still fellow enthusiasts out there.

In this short but sweet story, I was taken from highs of a first love--as misguided as it can be--to the lows of disappointment and back to the highs as Barq finally finds his true purpose. With strong writing, heart tugging characters, and a dash of fantasy thrown in, I am pleased to give Encounters: The Unicorn four and a half Delightful Divas. Kudos, Mr. Story, for such a well written story! I look forward to reading more of your stories in the future!
