Summary: SBC president, Drew Black, is as controversial as they come. But the hot-headed entrepreneur is a perfect match for his popular sports club venture: uncompromising and extreme. Maybe too extreme. With a reputation for saying what he thinks, Drew's been causing a lot of friction. That's why someone's been called in to clean up his image—before he does any permanent damage.
The lucky lady is Gillian Noode, a PR expert who's smoothed out the rough edges on many a man. But Drew is rougher than anyone she's ever met, and he refuses to change for any woman, for any reason. To make matters more complicated, Gillian's starting to like him raw. Now, opposites aren't only attracting, they're igniting. But in the rising heat, which one of them will end up on top?
Deb’s Review: Back in Black by Lori Foster is book five in the SBC series. The long awaited story about Drew Black. From this reviewer's standpoint it was well worth the wait.
From fiery women to hot blooded males, Lori Foster's SBC series will get your blood pumping. Here is a list of the series, in case you missed one:
Book #1 - Causing Havoc
Book #2 - Simon Says
Book #3 - Hard To Handle
Book #4 - My Man Michael
Back in Black has everything a great contemporary romance should have: intrigue and action, along with love scenes that will knock your socks off. Lori Foster will flip your switch and ignite your passions with Drew, Gillian, Brett and Audrey's stories.
Drew and Gillian's back-and-forth bantering adds to the sparks flowing between these two characters. Can Drew, a pure bad boy, hold his own when he comes face to face with a PA powerhouse like Gillian Noode? Or will they just end it all with a knock out?
Drew has his issues, but in all reality he is a great character. Drew's mouth and his all so sexy swagger is what drew me to him in the first place. What he lacks in tact, he makes up for in heart. I think the readers will connect with him just fine. I know I did. You can find Drew's character in all of the other SBC books as well.
Gillian—what a dynamo—is certainly a character I can admire. Ms. Foster does not write her women to be shrinking violets and Gillian is no exception. She takes no bull and can spin anything. I have to ask Ms. Foster, is Gillian's character a carbon copy of anyone you know? I for one would love to know. *g*
As far as plot lines go, it flowed very nicely. I was never lacking for information. Ms. Foster gives great in-depth details into all the characters. You get their whole story, past and present, by the time you get to the last page. I think it helped me connect with the characters, as well as get the feel for the story. I even enjoyed the little added fact that Ms. Foster added a cat named "Spice" (Brett's cat) to the book. I am a huge animal lover and know Lori is as well.
There was a nice surprise when I found that there was another love story brewing with in this book. Brett and Audrey's story is sweet and emotional, with some turbulence just like Drew and Gillian's, but in my opinion, that makes the story more believable. A very nice bonus, but their story did not steel away the spotlight from Drew and Gillian merely added to it. I found that both couples blended quite well and their interactions added drama as well as laughter throughout the book.
Secondary level characters were strong. There are recurring characters from the first three books; I was missing Michael and Kayli from book four. As with all the other SBC books, we are never lacking for crazy people. *chuckle* Back in Black is no exception. There is someone out there trying to stop Drew Black. The plot twist was a great addition; I was never bored. The pace kept moving right along.
Back in Black is extremely HOT! Sure to make to best seller list and the Top 10. Lori Foster is what true romance is all about. She is deliciously sinful, with a delectable imagination that draws us into her books that leave us saying Wow!
