Summary: Finding a satyr caged in a carnival sideshow horrifies Travis and Cembran and forces them to make a daring rescue. A captive for decades, the wild, animalistic satyr named Vauk quickly vanishes into the wilderness on Travis and Cembran's property in search of safety and solitude.

The next summer, Travis and Cembran invite a new friend, Trent, to attend the Bacchanal. What they don't expect is for Trent to reach out to the abused satyr, much less for the reclusive Vauk to accept his attention. Trent forges a connection between them, and Vauk's human side starts to emerge as he learns about the modern world. Trent teaches Vauk how to communicate, how to cloak his satyr features, and most importantly, how to love.

Those skills will be crucial for Vauk's survival... especially when Vauk's captors and his unknown past threaten him and everyone he loves.

A story in the Children of Bacchus universe

Kathy's Review: I have to admit that, even though I have a number (a rather large number) of Andrew Grey's books in my TBR, this is the first one that I've read. I've always been intrigued by the story summaries of his books, enough so that I had to buy them. So imagine my pleasure to find that my sight-unseen, or rather, author-unread purchases have been worth it!

My first thought when I read about the Satyr stories was… What? I like mythology, but I really didn't see how the author could make satyr's work. But then, I hadn't read anything by this wonderful storyteller before. In Thursday's Child, the second in Mr. Grey's A Children of Bacchus Story, I was completely taken by the characters and the story. At around 248 pages, this isn't a short book, but I found myself so enthralled that the pages just flew by. And while I thought that there was a previous book in the series, in no way did I feel that I had missed anything. This story stands alone very well, but in my opinion, reading them in order would enrich the experience.

While this is Vauk's and Trent's story, the other satyrs are so close that it would be impossible to write a book with the focus solely on just two people. And that's one element that I loved; the absolute closeness and connection within the entire satyr community. For all intents and purposes, this tight-knit group is an extended family. There is richness and diversity in the characters, enough so that I would almost forget this is but fiction.

Thursday's Child is broken into two parts; Rebirth and Reawakening. For the most part, Rebirth is more of a prologue while Reawakening is the main part of the tale. In many ways they are two separate stories, but you really can't have the second part without the first.

Along with the romance and relationship between Trent and Vauk there is a deep mystery and I have to admit that I was quite surprised by the resolution. Andrew Grey kept so much, not necessarily hidden, but well-masked; I definitely had a big A-ha! moment and I loved it.

If you're a fan of fantasy that masquerades as real, if you love man-on-man romance or if you're just a lover of a beautifully crafted and wonderfully told story, then I urge you to check out Andrew Grey's Thursdays Child, not to mention the other books in this most delightful Children of Bacchus series.

Andrew, I was totally taken with them. I've got Children of Bacchus and My First Bacchanal with Child of Joy on my TBB (to be bought) list. I'm really looking forward to spending more time with your satyrs!
