Tara sat down and answered a few interview questions for us...


Can you start out by telling us a little more about yourself?


Thanks for taking the time to talk with me today, Melissa. I’m from Arizona, but having been living abroad for the past four years. I’ve been pursuing a career in writing since moving to the United Kingdom. Living away from everything familiar was what got me starting writing. I used it as an outlet to cope with the sometime stressful experiences of living in a different land. I’ve got two wonderful children and a great husband whose encourages my writing dream, even if sometime I some like a flake. I’ve currently had two works released: The Dream King and Forever Tonight and a third title under a pen name.


You’re celebrating your newest release, Nirvana. Can you tell us a little more about this book?

Nirvana is the story of Jena Childs, a young London woman gifted with the power of electromagnetism who discovers an ancient connection to a London police agent who has a few secrets of his own. Adam Reynolds is the agent of a top secret London psychic operations program seeking redemption from his role in involuntarily inducting reluctant psychic in the company program. In this interracial romance, each discovers amazing facts about the love they share.

Jena and Adam’s lives entwine in meaningful ways as they go on the run from secret enemies that threaten to split them apart forever.

What was your inspiration for writing Nirvana?

I’ve always enjoyed practicing yoga and very been interested in the myths of Ancient India. A visit to a museum in London got my imagination going. Then bang! Nirvana was born.

What can we expect next from Tara Newlands?

I’m currently at work on the follow up to my current novel, The Dream King which is entitled River of Light. While finishing up on a new story under my pen name.

Do you a lot of research before writing a book?

Sometime yes and sometimes no. LOL

I like to research wild, weird and off the wall topics the inspire me to create my own strange and sometime, dark worlds. But, also to let the words flow to me which is really my double speak for flying by the seat of my pants.

What’s your favourite genre to read?

I enjoy all types of romance books from urban fantasy to paranormal to contemporary. Although, I’d say right now I really enjoy paranormals.

In your opinion, what are three key elements that make up a great romance story?

I believe that a good romance helps readers to think outside the box, great writing and an engaging storyline. A great hero is also a plus, but not in the normal sense of the word. I think it should be ok for a hero to show flaws because it makes him that much more real.

Is there any place in the world you’d like to visit one day?

Oh, that’s an easy one. I’d love to have the chance to visit every country in the whole world. LOL But, if I had to pick one place right now I’d pick India. Although, I’m not sure about the food because I have a problem with certain spices. Silly thing to share, but so true.
