From the blurb, I got the feeling that Punished was going to be a cute story about a man and his secretary with a backdrop of BDSM to make things spicy. And from an author with the talent of Brynn Paulin I was more than okay with that. But that’s not what you get in this delightful tale. It is so much more than that. Yes, it’s kinky and fun, but it’s also heartfelt and the characters go through a lot of emotional work and trust issues to get to their happily ever after. There was no walk in the park to their happily ever after.

The characters are the focus of this story. There aren’t a ton of secondary characters to interfere with Ethan and Natalia’s tale. The entire story revolves around their developing relationship and the stumbling blocks along the way, with the BDSM elements as a catalyst rather than the reason behind anything.

Ms. Paulin’s stories never fail to entertain and captivate. I can’t say that I’ve ever read one I didn’t like. Having read many of her books, I can honestly say that my favorites have been her BDSM books. While her other books are excellent, there is just something about those stories that sets them apart.

This story is certainly a must read for anyone who enjoys a good story. If you’re looking for a lot of action and physical drama, you’re not going to find that here. But, if you want a story that is engaging, unique, fun and intense in its own way, then you should definitely pick up Punished.

If you haven’t read anything in the genre of BDSM, this may well be a good place to start. While it focuses on spanking more so than the overall elements you’d find in other BDSM books, I think it works here – not only for the story but to set it apart in today’s marketplace for readers.

I hope Ms. Paulin continues to write more in the BDSM genre. It’s certainly a genre in which she excels.
