Summary:

Cole Jackson and Kyle Harding haven’t got any doubts that Hailey Mathews is up to something, but they ain’t worried. They have their own wicked intentions and the full confidence that one little woman doesn’t stand a chance against two Cattlemen.

Hailey has had enough. Enough of Kyle and his smooth charm. Enough of Cole and his provocations. Not about to trust that either Cattleman has any interest in her other than playing a game, Hailey decides it’s time to show them how it’s done.

However, if things don’t go the way Hailey plans, the consequences might be more than she can pay.

Jae’s Review:

Jenny Penn’s Cattlemen’s Club series continues with a bang! Hailey’s Game certainly lives up to the standard set by Patton’s Way, the first in this series, and then some. At over 400 pages, I was a bit concerned that the story would drag in the middle. I mean, come on, what romance novel needs 400 pages to get two—well in this case three—people together. But this is NOT your ordinary romance novel and the plot is so much more robust than “boys want girl, boys get girl”. There is very little dragging or stalling to this tale. The scenes are in depth but not boring. The sexual escapades are plentiful and varied but never tedious in their descriptions. There is plenty of humor, lust, sex, plotting, fighting, jealously, anxiety and love to fill those 400 pages and then some.

The plot engages from the very first page and doesn’t let go until the end of the story. I just loved all the antics on the part of Hailey, Cole and Kyle. What a great team they will make. I thought Jenny Penn did an outstanding job of bringing the characters back from Patton’s Way; namely, Chase, Slade, Devin and Patton as well as Rachel, Killian and Adam. But I was most impressed by the fact that while she brought back these characters and let them take part in the story to help move the action along and give it dimension, they at no time overpowered the attention on our current heroes and heroine; they all added to the overall enjoyment of the story.

Since this is a series I always like to mention whether I’d suggest the book as a standalone story. I think Hailey’s Game could stand on its own quite easily. While the past characters come into play, the previous book does not directly impact the telling of Hailey’s story.

My best advice: Go ahead and pick up Patton’s Way – you’re going to want to know her story once you meet her…I have no doubt. And reading Patton’s Way will certainly enhance hearing Hailey’s story since it’s where you’ll first meet all these characters. And really, you’re not going to want to miss out on any of their adventures.

I honestly didn’t want Hailey’s Game to end and I can’t wait to find out who we have in store for our next Cattlemen’s Club tale. I’m hoping for Hailey’s brothers. For as little time as we spent with them they have intrigued me. I must know more!
