Review Copy Received From Publisher

Summary:

In ‘What You Wish For’, Jared Cross came to a realization that he was gay after a surprising proposition from the much older Nicol Romanenko, the owner of a local gay hotspot. Obsidian continues the morning after their first evening together.

Jared and Nicol take the first steps in what promises to become a very interesting and fulfilling relationship. But that is all cut short when Jared finds himself in the hospital after a mugging. Can their relationship survive when Jared’s family and ex-girlfriend show up and find out that Jared is gay?

Jae’s Review:

The blurb to Obsidian: What You Wish For 2 by Alex Jacobs intrigued me the moment I read it. Not one to like starting in the middle of a story/series I had to read What You Wish For first, and I quickly fell in love with both Jared and Nicol. I was very impressed by Alex Jacobs writing style in that story and it’s continuation in Obsidian did not let me down. Jared and Nicol were just as compelling, if not more so, than in the previous story.

I can’t wait to see where Alex Jacobs takes this series. In Obsidian, the reader is sent on an even deeper emotional journey through Jared’s life. Through these trials and tribulations we get to know Jared’s friends and family as well as learn more about Nicol. Many things were left unresolved, so don’t expect a neat and tidy ending. But our heroes are happy-for-now and I’m excited to learn more about them and how they are going to handle some obvious future issues.

I had a few issues with the timeline within the story; some confusing overlap as to when things occurred. However, this didn’t stop my enjoyment of Obsidian in the least, it merely gave me pause at a point or two. The overall story is so gripping that I had no problem ignoring any perceived timeline issues in order to find out what happened next to these fantastic characters.

There are quite a few secondary characters that I hope will get their own happy ending at some point in the future --- will the author write a spin-off of this story to tell those tales? One can certainly hope. Their stories will no doubt be as compelling as Jared’s.

This is only the second book I’ve read from Alex Jacobs, but I can tell you that this is an author to watch. The stories already have heart, and since writers tend to grow in depth and character development as they progress through their careers, readers are certain to be in for even more outstanding stories in the future.

Rated 4 ½ Delightful Divas by Jae!
