AJ’s Review:
Passionate Bid is a compelling story that will have you laughing from Julian’s off-the-wall sarcasm, angry for all the injustices that to an extent both characters endure, but mainly, Joanie, and crying at times as they discover themselves and their love for one another. Ms. O’Malley’s well-written, scintillating story knocked my socks off and had me literally begging for more. I couldn’t put Passionate Bid down and was sad when the story came to an end. Well, sad because it ended. Even now as I write this review, I can’t help but hope there might be a short follow-up story for Julian and Joanie. You know, just so we can see how they are doing.
The way Ms. O’Malley builds the story from beginning to end will keep you guessing in regards to what will happen next. Joanie is a strong, mature heroine for her age and will do anything to make sure that her baby girl, Sam, has everything she needs, which is how she ends up dancing in a restaurant if that’s what you want to call the dive. Although she was young and naïve when she married Julian, Joanie has grown into a strong woman and you’ll appreciate not only how she stands up for herself; but also how she stands up to Julian as he swoops in and begins making judgment calls about things he knows nothing about. As a reader, I couldn’t help but fall in love with Joanie and Sam. Maybe it’s because I’m always rooting for the underdog.
Although Julian was older when he was forced to marry Joanie, in several ways, he was still immature and selfish. There were times throughout the story that he accepted responsibility for his actions and then there were times that he felt sorry for himself and considered himself a victim of circumstance, but he wasn’t in the grand scheme of things. That ole’ saying “Mother knows best” is what I thought about in regards to Julian’s grandmother and Joanie’s gun toting father as these two embrace an unexpected love. Or, maybe I should say an unexpected love for Julian. Their daughter, Sam, is so adorable that you could just eat her up. She’s a smart little three-year old who will definitely bring a smile to your face, which will make you instantly fall in love with her. I know that I did.
Georgina, the villain in this story is someone you will love to hate. She’s shallow to a fault and although some might consider her beautiful on the outside, on the inside, she’s the devil reincarnate. The showdown between her and Joanie made me want to rip her hair out and that’s all I’m saying because I don’t want to give away an intense part of the plot. Ooh! But when Georgina and Julian have their showdown, justice has its own sweet rewards.
Ms. O’Malley’s masterpiece, Passionate Bid, is absolutely freaking fantastic. Bravo Ms. O’Malley for providing us with a tantalizing, sexy, erotic, heartfelt story about love, loss, and most of all forgiveness of oneself and of one another. Oh, did I forget to mention the explosive sex between Joanie and Julian. My bad! Believe me, Passionate Bid has it all…humor, sensuality, heartfelt emotion, love, loss, anger, and definitely scorching hot sex. Not only will I recommend Passionate Bid to my friends, but I’ll re-read it just for the sure pleasure of it all.
