Victorian society demands certain things of its ladies. They must deport themselves as proper ladies, no matter what their standing. But what happens when these ladies don't want to adhere to society's rules?
Meet three Victorian ladies from three different walks of life who all have one thing in common. They don't want to follow the rules.
Charlotte Hudson is a widow whose marriage was never consummated. Add to that the fact that society thinks she killed her husband, and she has a tough road. Until she meets Lord Essex, who wants to bring her into his life, and over his knee. Together, they'll discover each other, and solve a mystery.
Carin Piper's father was a thief. Now that he's dead, she's determined to find out who’s responsible. In her quest, she makes the mistake of breaking into the house of Lord Ellington, who knows how to make her pay for her transgressions, and agrees to help her find her father's murderer.
Alice Hamilton helps people solve problems. When Lord Buxton comes to her for aid with a blackmailer, she agrees to help him, but only on her terms. Buxton knows, however, that Alice needs a firm hand to show her the ways of life. Together, they help solve each other's problems.
Three different ladies who come under the spell of three powerful men, who know how to tame their brats, and teach them how to love and enjoy life.
Three delicious novellas, (16 chapters in all) "The Virgin Widow," "To Catch a Thief," and "The Problem Solver," in one combined volume.
Jae’s Review: I need to preface this review with a little bit of information – trust me, it’ll make the review make a lot more sense and give you more information. First, as a reader, I don’t usually like anthology tales. I tend to find them too short to give a reader any substance and the endings are usually rushed to fit a particular length. Second, I don’t tend to like ‘spanking’ tales per se. Of the few I have read, they tend to have a very loose plot—if one at all—and have a certain feel to them…hard to describe…almost like the author just wanted to write about spanking and had to throw in a plot to sell the title to readers. I need more than that from a romance novel. For now, let’s just say I tend to avoid spanking books altogether.
So now you’re all wondering…why on earth would you buy a spanking anthology? Well…because it’s by Melinda Barron, of course. I’ve always like her BDSM and non-BDSM tales and when I saw this title, I just had to buy it.
And I was right.
These three stories are great. They all have their own individual plots. While the characters overlap and recur in later stories, the main driving plot is different for each one. The three heroines within these stores are feisty, smart, strong and determined. There are no weak wills to be encountered in these tales.

Across the board, each story contains a mystery of sorts. The mystery is the impetus for the hero and heroine to meet. The mysteries are quite intricate in their own rights; all of them were real who-dun-its. Each story is a good length with endings that are not rushed. I was always left wanting more. Not because of a lack of story, but more because I didn’t want to leave the characters. I wanted to know more and follow them along through their relationship to see what mess they would get into next. Each story is romantic, sexy, humorous, intense, fun and overall enjoyable with a bit of mystery and intrigue as well.
For those of you that enjoy BDSM and have been wondering whether a spanking story could hold your interest – or even for those non-BDSM readers out there that would like to read a good book with strong characters –give Melinda Barron’s Victorian Brats a try. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. I will say that if you’re bothered for some reason by the subject of domestic discipline, then don’t read this title because it will likely not appeal to you. It is, however, consensual among the characters and I think it works within these stories fitting seamlessly within the plotlines.
I don’t think my thoughts have changed much on anthologies or on spanking fiction, but I can say that I wasn’t wrong in trusting Melinda Barron to deliver a delightful story to her readers.
