Having Patience by Debra Glass is a scorching hot historical romance that I found difficult to put down.

Even though theirs isn’t a love match, James and Patience mutually admire and respect one another. When James discovers that Patience will submit to him out of duty rather than desire, he finds he cannot bring himself to consummate their marriage.

Patience does desire James, but she is having difficulty reconciling her sexual feelings with the idea that a lady is not supposed to experience physical pleasure. And Patience is further shocked when her sexual fantasies entail James ravishing her, tying her up, and spanking her. Patience welcomes the freedom to choose erotic scenes from the penny dreadfuls. She experiences misgivings at how James will react to the scenes she has chosen, but James quickly proves he is adventuresome in the bedroom.

Having Patience lacks secondary characters, but James and Patience are strong enough to carry the story. The sex scenes are amazingly hot and varied with light BDSM. Patience’s struggle to reconcile her sexual nature with her proper lady’s upbringing is insightful, realistic, and relevant to anyone who is trying to understand their own sexuality.
