Srikkanth Bhattacharya is a quintessential gay bachelor and perfectly happy about it—until he gets a call from the local hospital telling him his best friend died in childbirth. Sri had agreed to provide the sperm to make Jill's dream of motherhood come true, but he'd never expected to have to make decisions for a baby girl. He intends to place her with an adoptive family, but once he sees her, Sri can’t bring himself to do it, so now he’s struggling to learn how to deal with a newborn.
His housemate and friend, Jaime Frias, volunteers to help, never guessing he’ll fall in love with both the baby and Sri. Everything seems perfect until a visit from Social Services sends Sri into a tailspin, feeling like he has to choose between his daughter and a relationship with the man he’s coming to love.
K. B.’s Review:
Her Two Dads by Ariel Tachna is one of the most emotionally rewarding and uplifting love stories that I have read in a long time. Sri and Jaime’s journey from platonic housemates to a non-traditional family is very touching and heartwarming.
Sri and Jaime have been housemates for three years, and they have agreed to a strictly hands-off, friends’ only relationship. Other housemates have come and gone, but Jaime has been a steady fixture in Sri’s home.
When Sri sees Sophie for the first time, he knows he cannot give her up for adoption, and he makes the split second decision to raise her. Unfortunately, he is completely and utterly clueless when it comes to kids in general and babies in particular. Lucky for Sri, Jaime comes from a large family, and he has a lot of experience with children. He is quick to offer assistance to Sri when baby Sophie comes home from the hospital.

Sophie rapidly grabs hold of Jaime’s heart, and he finds the carefree bachelor life he has been living is not as enjoyable as it was before she came into his life. Before long, the dynamic between Sri and Jaime shifts from friendship to romantic. They are eager to move their relationship to the next level despite their fears of ruining what they currently have.
While Sri and Jaime’s relationship evolves slowly throughout the course of story, the book moves along at a brisk pace. Ms. Tachna is a gifted storyteller who paints a beautiful portrait of two men falling in love while raising Sophie together. Not only does Sophie bring Jaime and Sri together, she helps bridge the gap that exists within Jaime’s extended family. I found myself completely captivated by the scenes with Jaime’s family.
Ms. Tachna stays true to the pace of Her Two Dads when Sri and Jaime resolve the issues that arise from the visit by Social Services. It is the only major conflict that the two men are faced with, and I like how Ms. Tachna let them hash it out without drama and in a manner that meshed with their personalities.
If you are a fan of love stories with families, Her Two Dads by Ariel Tachna is a must read. I am sure you will find it as enchanting as I did.
