Kathy’s Review:
The blurb for Susanna’s Heart was spare, but I was quite taken by the premise and there was just something about it that said to me ‘ read me.’ So I did; and at the end... heck by the end of the first chapter... I was celebrating!
This is a story about two adult—read mature—people who’ve been betrayed by those they loved. They’re not out for revenge, but instead, both have gone on with their lives or at least made changes whereby they could do so.
A.M. Wells depicted Susanna so vividly that I could see her at the beginning as she watched her sister and ex-boyfriend make nice with everyone. The only person that knew what Susanna’s sister had done was also her one comfort, her cousin Tasha. Truly, I don’t think that I could, or would, have stepped back as she did... I’d have been far more likely to spread far and wide what the two people she should have been able to trust had done to her. But, knowing that nothing good would come of it, Susanna made the decision to move away; and it turned out to be the best thing she could have done for a number of reasons. Chief among them, of course, was meeting Noah.

Noah had been hurt when his fiancĂ©e had just up and left. He still works the family ranch with his father and has a good relationship with his family. It’s just that there’s something missing. He has no intention of ever falling in love again and when he chances upon Susanna the attraction that he feels is intense. Fortunately she’s no more eager to begin a ‘relationship’ than he is, but they’re both quite satisfied to indulge the fascination they feel.
I think what I liked the most—besides the incredible heat and sensuality of their affair—is that this is, as I mentioned earlier, a story and a romance between two adults. Sure there was a hiccup or two, but that’s what happens when two people begin to fall in love; especially when they’re sure that they are protected from any such thing happening. It’s nice to read a story where there aren’t rafts of angst, not that I have anything against angst, it’s just that it’s a treat to be able to read a romance that is both sexy and yet... soothing .
A.M. Wells did a fantastic job bringing Susanna and Noah to life. Their romance was wonderfully developed and everything flowed beautifully. Susanna’s Heart is an excellent introduction to the writing of Ms. Wells and this is only the beginning of an avid romance reader’s fan-ship. Brava!
