Tara sat down and answered a few interview questions for us...


Can you start out by telling us a little more about yourself?


Thanks for taking the time to talk with me today, Melissa. I’m from Arizona, but having been living abroad for the past four years. I’ve been pursuing a career in writing since moving to the United Kingdom. Living away from everything familiar was what got me starting writing. I used it as an outlet to cope with the sometime stressful experiences of living in a different land. I’ve got two wonderful children and a great husband whose encourages my writing dream, even if sometime I some like a flake. I’ve currently had two works released: The Dream King and Forever Tonight and a third title under a pen name.


You’re celebrating your newest release, Nirvana. Can you tell us a little more about this book?

Nirvana is the story of Jena Childs, a young London woman gifted with the power of electromagnetism who discovers an ancient connection to a London police agent who has a few secrets of his own. Adam Reynolds is the agent of a top secret London psychic operations program seeking redemption from his role in involuntarily inducting reluctant psychic in the company program. In this interracial romance, each discovers amazing facts about the love they share.

Jena and Adam’s lives entwine in meaningful ways as they go on the run from secret enemies that threaten to split them apart forever.

What was your inspiration for writing Nirvana?

I’ve always enjoyed practicing yoga and very been interested in the myths of Ancient India. A visit to a museum in London got my imagination going. Then bang! Nirvana was born.

What can we expect next from Tara Newlands?

I’m currently at work on the follow up to my current novel, The Dream King which is entitled River of Light. While finishing up on a new story under my pen name.

Do you a lot of research before writing a book?

Sometime yes and sometimes no. LOL

I like to research wild, weird and off the wall topics the inspire me to create my own strange and sometime, dark worlds. But, also to let the words flow to me which is really my double speak for flying by the seat of my pants.

What’s your favourite genre to read?

I enjoy all types of romance books from urban fantasy to paranormal to contemporary. Although, I’d say right now I really enjoy paranormals.

In your opinion, what are three key elements that make up a great romance story?

I believe that a good romance helps readers to think outside the box, great writing and an engaging storyline. A great hero is also a plus, but not in the normal sense of the word. I think it should be ok for a hero to show flaws because it makes him that much more real.

Is there any place in the world you’d like to visit one day?

Oh, that’s an easy one. I’d love to have the chance to visit every country in the whole world. LOL But, if I had to pick one place right now I’d pick India. Although, I’m not sure about the food because I have a problem with certain spices. Silly thing to share, but so true.

Jae’s Review: Yes, My Mistress is the third story in the Le Club d’Esclavage series by Jennifer Cole. It was excellent to finally get to learn about Dani, and we certainly weren’t disappointed by her story. Jennifer Cole really maintained Dani’s personality from the first two books and brought her to life in Yes, My Mistress.

What I found interesting with this series is that really it isn’t a typical series at all; it’s one story with three parts. We first learned of Dani in At the Dungeon Master’s Hand, which is Natalie’s story. Again, we heard parts of Dani’s story, when we read A Toy For Two and were shown Megan’s story. Finally, we get all the dirty details (that’s a good thing, by the way) in Yes, My Mistress which takes place before, during and after the first two stories, but this one is solely about Dani and Mike. I guess what I’m saying is that that’s how these stories differ from a typical series: each, while taking a look into the same relative time frame, is showing us what occurs to each of these three close friends separately.

It really is an interesting way to develop a series and I highly recommend you read it and find out what these three girls, Dani, Natalie and Megan, are up to. The character development is excellent. You can see inside Dani’s life. You’re there with her. Dani’s transformation into Mistress and her developing relationship with Mike were fun to read, and the writing propelled you through the story.

It’s a shame that this story draws a close to the Le Club d’Esclavage series, but I can’t wait to see that Jennifer Cole has in store for us next.

Jae’s Review: Dakota Springs is the fourth book in Leah Brooke’s Dakota Heat series. I thought this was a great entry into this series; very different from the other stories, but maintaining the western/ranch theme. What I found interesting is that the story was also unique with its approach to a ménage. I don’t want to give anything away, but suffice to say these tough, hot, sexy cowboys didn’t grow up thinking they’d share their woman. I find this to be a unique perspective among ménage stories where, so often, it’s the intent of the men to share from the onset.

I thought the passion that the characters possessed for each other came through the pages very nicely. I was brought into Elizabeth’s life and could feel for her from the very beginning. Both Hayden and Chandler’s characters were tough, hot cowboys; the kind we love to read about and wrap ourselves around in a hot romance story. They had interesting and sexy ideas on how to make Elizabeth understand they were sincere in their desire for her—which made for a passionate and sexy story that propelled you through the pages to find out what would happen next.

I’ve been a fan of Leah Brooke’s writing for a while, and she has yet to disappoint me with her stories. So, if you like those tough, hot cowboys with sensitive sides and strong, feisty females that give them a run for their money, then you should definitely saddle up and get your copy of Dakota Springs today. I can’t imagine where you’d be disappointed.

The story line is realistic and at times, kept me on the edge of my seat. If Amber doesn’t take Norris and Brett, please send them my way. I was excited that Ms. Adams reintroduced Skyler, Caleb and Tate from the first book in the series and allowed the reader to see how their lives have progressed. In a word, Riding Cowboys is freaking-fantastic. If you’re looking for a story where the sex is hot, the men are skilled in the art of pleasure, and the sexual tension between the characters will send shivers down your spine, then Riding Cowboys is the book to read. Bravo Ms. Adams for providing us with a riveting, sexy story that’s taken the world of erotica to a whole new level and is guaranteed to set our e-readers on fire.

Melissa’s Review: Fran Lee sent Out of Her Dreams to me quite a while back to review. I got so busy, and sadly, it got pushed to the back burner. Had I known what an absolute fantastic book this is, I would have read it the day she sent it to me. Ms. Lee’s writing is phenomenal in this extremely hot story. She had me on page one, and I couldn’t stop reading. When I was forced to take a break, I couldn’t stop thinking about what was going to happen next.

Out of Her Dreams is a character driven book. The plot revolved around them and their relationship, with very little else going on. Their relationship was so intense and sexual; little else was needed or noticed. I loved both characters and couldn’t get enough of them. Sam is a delightful little lady who has a lot of spunk, but needs to gain a little confidence in herself and her power to hold a man’s attention. David is a huge hunk of a man who needs to learn to control his anger and communicate a little better.

I could go on and on about this book and the characters, but it all really comes down to this: Out of Her Dreams is a wild, passionate ride that I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys erotic romance. I anxiously await the next Fran Lee book I can get my hands on.

Kathy’s Review: A fun and light-hearted story, Devon Rhodes’ A Pint Light was a real treat to read. But there was also a few times when I felt on the verge of tearing up; for both Raine and Valerian. And while I really liked Valerian, it was Raine that fascinated me. There was just something so... appealing? Nope, too weak a word. Raine is beguiling, enchanting, captivating: he’s a man sure of himself, of who he is and what, and who, he wants. He’s extremely loving to his sister and very strongly drawn to Val... but he’s not going to put up with anything other than respect. And the back story of just why Raine needs to make this attachment leads me to hope that Ms. Rhodes has a LOT more to come regarding this world, and these people.

I’d go so far as to say that A Pint Light is an appetizer, something meant to tempt and tease the palate. It’s very satisfying and supremely enjoyable, but you know that this is only a taste of the banquet yet to come. And personally I hope that there’s a LOT more to come from the mind and wonderful creative imagination of Devon Rhodes... Soon please, I’m a little puckish. *grin*

Kathy’s Review: I really enjoyed Nirvana by new-to-me author, Tara Newlands. Not only for the psychic elements ~ which are among my favorites ~ but for the way that she wove together the past and the present... or perhaps I should say the ‘pasts’ and present.

I liked Jena; she was trapped in a society where her value was determined by her abilities... and who would be able to own these same talents. Not a pleasant place to be at all. But she wasn’t a quitter, even when faced with odds stacked heavily against her.

Adam was already having doubts as to what he was called to do as an agent of MI7. But meeting Jena and the subsequent knowledge he gains about their connection throughout the ages really has him reeling ~ and learning more about who he is now and what he’s willing to do to make amends.

I have to admit that I’m intrigued by this society; I can see a lot of potential for more stories in the vein of Nirvana. The battle for control over those with psychic abilities is, for me, a series waiting to happen... well, it would if I could write. *grin*

I was also fascinated by the way that Ms. Newlands worked the themes of reincarnation and gods in her story, and while the way that the story ended was completely unexpected, it works. So if you enjoy stories rife with past lives, psychic abilities, battles between good and evil, along with a sweet romance, then you will want to try Nirvana by Tara Newlands. I know that I’m glad I did!

There was minimal dialogue; it was mostly telling about the Norwegian holiday and preparations, and also Hitch’s experience in a new country. Because this is a short book, there really wasn’t much character or plot development. Basically, The Naughty Julenisse is a good quick read if you are looking for a lot of detail and one fairly hot scene between Hitch and Hella.

Melissa’s Review: While the premise of Faithe and Salvation by Aden Kains was quite intriguing, I found myself removed from everything in a way that made it impossible for me to develop any connections with the characters. There was a lot of telling and reminiscing, but not enough showing or dialogue. I did find Faithe’s witty dialogue refreshing and fun, but Morgan’s dialogue and apparent thought process was unrealistic and out of place.

I also found Faithe’s acceptance of Morgan and the situation she finds herself in way too easy. Granted, she complained a little here and there in the beginning, but she quickly acquiesces, and with little passage of time or explanation of her reasons for agreeing to Morgan’s terms.

I can’t say that reading this book was a complete loss or waste of time, and I wouldn’t mind giving Aden Kains a try again, but sadly, I was disappointed with Faithe and Salvation.

Melissa’s Review: After reading this short novella, I am still a little puzzled as to exactly what happened to Paul. I have speculated a couple different things, but I am not sure which or either is correct. I can say that I was intrigued throughout this short book because I just had to know what was going on.

Anyone who may consider reading Dead Souls by Varian Krylov, needs to know that this is a somewhat violent book and does contain scenes of rape, one quite detailed. Because of this fact, this book may not be for everyone.

The flow was choppy a couple times, but not so bad that I couldn’t follow along. The pace is certainly very fast, and the whole book is quite intense. I am interested in reading more work by Varian Krylov because these psychological type horror stories appeal to me.

Melissa’s Review: Red Satin by Giselle Renarde is a novella about two good friends, Regan, a lesbian, and Maisie, a transgender male living as a female. Because it is such a short story at only 18 pages, there is not a lot of depth to the characters or the plot, but Ms. Renarde did an excellent job of putting tons of emotion into a few pages.

The entire gist of what I got out of this book is that it doesn’t matter “what” you are, it matters “who” you are. Regan may be lesbian, but she has loads of deep feelings for Maisie who is, essentially, a man in body, if not in mind. While Regan is quite comfortable in her own skin and with whom she is, Maisie is not. Outwardly, Maisie is fun-loving and outgoing, but deep down where it counts, she worries about what people think of her now that she is living as a female.

If you are looking for a quick, basically light read, that touches on the tender subject of sexual identity and preference, Red Satin should be right up your alley.

AJ’s Review: The Better to Eat You With is sexy, provocative, erotic, and will have you panting at the end of every page. I love how Elise is feisty, sensual and unafraid to embrace her sexual desires and needs. Ms. Moore definitely knows how to write a short story that packs a punch and will have you begging for more.

I enjoyed Ms. Moore’s play on words as she incorporated parts of the original fairy tale into her erotic tale of Grandma and the Big Bad Wolfe during Elise and Wolfe’s sexcapades. Elise and Nick’s love for one another is intense, yet endearing and only helps bring the characters to life. The small role that Red, Elise’s granddaughter, plays in the story is extremely cute and only reminds us of how prolific children can be when we’re not paying attention.

Although the sex is scorching hot, you can’t help but fall in love with Wolfe, the same way grandma does. Two thumbs up to Ms. Moore for providing us with a smart, sexy, scorching hot, erotic fairy tale that’s nothing like what your grandmother use to read at bedtime. Or…maybe it is. I would definitely recommend The Better to Eat You With to my friends.
