Wanna be Your Dog by Glyn Soitiño

Wanna be Your Dog by Glyn Soitiño
Publisher: Torquere Press, Single Shot
Genre: Gay Erotic Romance, Paranormal

Review Copy Received from Publisher

Summary: Having decided to take a break from the road, shapeshifter Ethan is living the quiet life in a dog refuge. He has no intention of allowing himself to be adopted, but when handsome Luke visits the refuge, seeking to take home a rescue dog, and chooses Ethan, the prospect suddenly seems far more attractive.

Luke's loneliness after dumping his abusive boyfriend has now been banished by the comforting presence of his beautiful new dog. But when Luke's ex, bent on revenge, launches an attack on his life, Luke soon finds out that he got more than he bargained for when he adopted Jet.

Kathy’s Review: I adore shape shifter stories, and ones that are this sweet and sexy are more than just enjoyable. Wanna be Your Dog by Glyn Soitiño begins as quite lighthearted and easy-going. But first impressions can be erroneous.

I love Ethan; he’s satisfied, for the most part, living a dog’s life. We know that he left his family home some time before, but not what precipitated it. Obviously, it was serious enough that he took to the road as his inner dog. But it’s rather cute, too; certainly waiting for the right person to come to the refuge was an okay life for him. It did lead me to wonder just what had happened that living as a dog in a shelter was an improvement. Until, of course, Ethan learns that his shelter days are coming to an end.

Luke really needed someone to love, and someone that would love him unconditionally. Obviously Luke and Ethan were fated to meet. Watching as the man and his ‘dog’ got to know one another was sweet, but it soon became apparent to Ethan that he wanted more than just to be Luke’s dog; his feelings were growing into an attachment that he couldn’t deny. How do you go about telling the man you’re coming to love that his dog loves him? Uh, not easily.

Glyn Soitiño is a new-to-me author, but with Wanna Be Your Dog, I’m on the search for more of her books. If they’re all as sweet, yet with a serious undertone as is this book, then I’m definitely going to enjoy the search.

Engaging Evelyn by Jennifer Salaiz

Engaging Evelyn by Jennifer Salaiz
Publisher: Siren Publishing
Genre: Erotic, Paranormal, Ménage, M/F/M

Review Copy received from Publisher

Summary: Determined to overcome her broken heart, Evelyn devises the game Bets. She’s sure that if she stays distracted by good looking men, her problems will go away. But what she doesn’t expect is the persistent, gorgeous Brandon conveniently appearing everywhere she turns.

Brandon moves into the resort style condo prepared to make Evelyn fall in love with him. The last thing he expects is the ex fiancé showing up and complicating things. On a mission to make Evelyn pay, Brandon’s not willing to let anything get in his way. Even if that means submitting to the feelings he’s truly beginning to feel for her.

Stacey’s Review: Engaging Evelyn has to be Jennifer Salaiz’s best work to date. It is the first book in the Blissful Bets series. From the concept to the engaging writing style, I was enthralled. Evelyn and her friends play their naughty game, called Bets, where they end up sleeping with strange, handsome men. We learn that Evelyn’s wild behavior is only to mask the hurt she feels within.

Jennifer Salaiz did an amazing job in showing us the depth of emotion that her characters felt. This was a fun, sexy read with hot werewolf and vampire men. The writing flowed beautifully and kept my attention from page one until the very end. Evelyn’s emotional journey touched me and I rooted for her the entire read. I highly recommend this story of good girls gone very, very bad.

When the Bluebird Calls (Heart of the Mountain) by Leiland Dale

When the Bluebird Calls (Heart of the Mountain) by Leiland Dale
Publisher: Silver Publishing
Genre: Contemporary, GLBT (M/M)

Reviewer’s copy

Summary: Devon Reid, veterinarian, had a partner of 2 years, a beautiful house, and a fantastic job. Then, life as he knew it, changed.

Six months ago, he became his mother's sole caretaker when her cancer returned. With his constant absence from home, his relationship ends leaving him alone in one of the most emotionally draining points in his life. When his mother passes, he is lonely and loses his zest for life.

With his emotions and life in turmoil, Devon decides it's time to make a change. Leaving the city life behind and taking a job in a small town in Montana, was just what the doctor ordered. Then, he meets the hunky ranch foreman, Greg Elliot.

Greg has lived most of his life on a ranch. Living in a small town didn't offer many prospects for a relationship, until he meets the new veterinarian in town.

While they try to resist the obvious mutual attraction, a fateful call during the night changes it all.

What is a city boy to do when a small town cowboy ropes him in?

Kathy’s Review: Leiland Dale is a new-to-me author whose writing really appeals to me. His stories aren’t too long, but he gets the reader involved with the characters from the beginning. And he manages to infuse into each story an external conflict that threatens both life and love. When a Bluebird Calls also has a hint of mysticism, and I really love this element.

This is a sweet and yet very sexy story, and it rocks as a romance. Devon’s decision to leave the life that brings him no joy and head out west for a simpler life isn’t a spur of the moment thing. And it ends up being one of the best things he’s ever done. I loved as he found his feet and a peace previously lacking. He’s a good man who deserves all the best.

And the best is yet to come: Enter Greg. We know how he came about to live in the small town of Bridger, Montana, and that he’s found a home there. Working on Sam Hart’s ranch has been his life for the last few years, but of course, something’s missing. Greg’s not a man who is comfortable speaking about how he feels and has learned to keep himself, for the most part, private. But there’s something about this new vet in town, and Greg just can’t escape the memories of their first meeting.

Leiland Dale does a beautiful job bringing to life his characters; both Devon and Greg are men that it would be a great pleasure to call friends. Mr. Dale’s able to show us the beauty of the area, as well; Bridger, Montana would be a lovely place to visit, and I certainly hope that we get to come here again... soon?

If you’ve not enjoyed the storytelling of Leiland Dale, this is an excellent story with which to begin your acquaintance. Enjoy!

DDR Spotlights: Dark Desires at Midnight by Jessica Lee

Dark Desires at Midnight

by Jessica Lee

Arran MacLain is a vampire on a suicide mission, driven to kill his former partner who betrayed him and the Enclave they served. But two things stand in his way: Gabrielle, the human female who holds his heart, and the past that won’t let him go. If only death was enough to cleanse his soul.

Gabrielle Steven’s sister is missing. Her hunt for clues brings her face to face with the one vampire she can’t forget. Their missions combine and thrust them into the heart of evil. Will their passion be enough to overcome the pain from their past, or will their dark desires destroy them both

Arran rolled his Ninja into the parking lot beside Gabrielle’s car and killed the engine. She’d taken the newsflash about Markus and Marguerite pretty much like he’d expected. She’d mumbled an oath of determination right before she’d kicked him out of the car. Gabrielle wasn’t a member of the Enclave in name only. It didn’t matter that she didn’t work patrol. Gabrielle was as much a warrior as any of the males. Life hadn’t dealt her any favors. And she wasn’t one to lie down and let it bulldoze over her. She stood and fought for every inch of ground gained.

He waited for her to get out of the car, then removed his helmet.

“You didn’t need to follow me home,” she said over her shoulder, heading for the front door of her sister’s townhouse. He was surprised when she’d led him here instead of a hotel. The place must have belonged to her sister. He palmed his keys, slid off his bike, and shoved the keys in his pocket.

“I wasn’t going to let you leave alone after the info I just dumped on you,” he said as he came up behind her while she unlocked the door. “I wanted to make sure you got home safe. And I wanted to be sure you actually went home.”

“Oh my God, you can be such an ass sometimes.” Her back was to him, but Arran could almost hear her eyes roll with that statement. She was right. He was an ass. But while he was here, he would be taking care of hers.

Gabrielle flipped on the lights, and he followed her inside. The heels of her boots clicked on the hardwood floor of the foyer, echoing in the open stairwell of the two-story apartment. She couldn’t have been in town long, but the air in the place already carried her scent. He pulled in another slow, deep breath through his nostrils. His heart rate quickened.

Honeysuckle. Arran wanted to smile but repressed the grin. Ironic that such a delicate and sweet fragrance emanated from the hellcat with whom he’d just been reacquainted.

Her keys clinked as she dropped them in a bowl on a table near the staircase. Arran’s gaze devoured her provocative profile. He’d never seen her dressed like she was tonight. Living with five male vampires within the Enclave walls, she usually dressed a bit more conservatively. Not matronly, but definitely not this revealing. A short black leather skirt barely covered the lush curves of her ass, and a shirt that couldn’t have been more than a decked-out bra did its best to contain her full breasts. Shiny black leather boots wrapped her legs, highlighting the toned sweep of her calves. This couldn’t happen again. Arran slowly shook his head. He would end up killing someone if she dressed like this again.

She turned her head to the side, facing him. “I don’t need a babysitter. I’m more than capable of taking care of myself.” She shifted and faced him head-on. “You’ve been gone a long time, Arran. Things have changed. I’ve changed.”

“Maybe so. But you’re not taking on that colony alone. I can’t believe Logan let you come here without him.” Gabrielle turned her back, rearranging her purse on the table. Shit. He recognized the body language. “You didn’t tell him, did you?” Arran closed the distance between them.

“No. I didn’t need him here.” Gabrielle looked up, fierce determination written on her face. “I can handle this. Alex needed me. And I’m going to be there for her.” She shifted to face him again, leaning her hip against the table. “I’m smart enough to know if -- and when -- I need help.”

Arran closed in, crowding her personal space, wanting a reaction. Aching for it, actually. Gabrielle straightened and took one step back but stopped and lifted her chin, refusing to cower and give him the reaction he itched for. She caught on quick.

“You think you have it all handled, lass?”

“Yeah, I do.”

“You got it all under control?”

The amber color of her irises had grown near molten. He allowed a small smile to pull at the corner of his mouth, loving the way she got all hot and bothered when he pushed her.

“Yes. I do.” The words had barely left her lips when she attacked, one leg coming out to catch the back of his ankle. Caught off guard, he stumbled.

Before he could regain his balance, she had his wrist locked in her grip. Swinging his arm up, she spun underneath, twisted, and wrenched his arm up the middle of his back, then shoved him face-first into the dank-smelling wall.

Well, damn. Not bad. “You’ve been training,” he mumbled against the Sheetrock.

“A little.” She sounded quite proud of herself. She was good. He’d give her that. But her heavy breathing told him it was all she could do to contain him, and he hadn’t even come close to tapping into his full abilities. She’d caught him by surprise, but she was human, a woman, and no match for a mature vampire. Especially in a multiple attack.

With a burst of speed, Arran pushed back, forcing Gabrielle to release him instead of falling on her rear. He whirled, catching her before she hit the floor. In less than a second, their positions reversed. Except this time, he’d pinned her back against the wall, her hands imprisoned by his, over her head.

The position pushed her full breasts up, almost spilling them from her top. Nice. He lifted his gaze, prepared for a hard glare. If her eyes were molten earlier, they were near boiling now. He couldn’t have stopped the next words that spilled from his lips if he’d tried.

“I win.”

“You ass!” She squirmed and bucked against him like a feral cat. Instead of gaining her freedom, though, each maneuver jammed her tighter into his hold. Her every inhale shoved her breasts into his chest. Heat radiated off her body, threatening to scramble his brain. Before he knew he’d even moved, his lips hovered over hers. What made him stop, God only knew.

Maybe it was the way she’d suddenly grown still? Or maybe it was the moment she’d parted her lips, releasing warm, peppermint-scented bursts of air that seduced his mind. So damn enticing. All he had to do was lean in one more inch, and he’d --

Fire shot up his arm. “Son of a…” Releasing her, he jumped back and flung his gaze to the offending limb. Blood.

A thin line of crimson blossomed along the outside of his bicep. She’d played him. Purposefully distracted him, so she could pull her hand free and reach for a blade that must have been hidden under her skirt and against her thigh. The little minx.

He swiveled his head back in Gabrielle’s direction. Air punched from his lungs. Christ. Blood surged to his cock. The overwhelming urge to stroke the rock-hard length at the sight of her was short-circuiting his brain. Gabrielle stood, one boot in front of the other, palming a short dagger. She was ready to fight.

He was ready to fuck.

Arran rocked from one foot to the other, searching within for the strength not to take what was his. Mentally, he shook his head. No. She’s not yours, asshole. But damn if his cock had the sense to listen.

“I know you weren’t about to kiss me, warrior. Were you?” She raised a delicate brow and tilted her head. “Because last I heard, my kiss was ‘forgettable.’”

Ouch. He’d had a feeling if he ever saw her again, that asinine comment would come back to bite him in the ass.

“Give me the blade, Gabrielle.”

“This?” She twirled the dagger, then palmed the hilt and held it up for display. “You want it?”

A devious smile lit her face. With her other hand, she beckoned him with her fingers. “Come and take it.”

Bad, bad challenge, kitten. A tremor started in his gut and worked its way up, until it was a buzz inside his brain. Every cell in his body wanted to take.

Mark.

Claim.

A gasp of air in his ear was the only indicator that he’d grabbed her. He didn’t remember the trip. Arran lifted her feet from the floor, whirled, and gently laid her on the stairs, pressing his hips, his chest into hers. He had to get his body next to hers. Everywhere. The dagger fell from her hand, rolling and thumping its way down the steps, each tumble a hollow thud.

The loud percussions bypassed the noise inside his head and brought him to a dead halt. He lay with his hips between her legs, his groin pressed to hers. His mouth suspended above her lips. He dropped his gaze to her mouth. God, how he loved the delicate line of her lips, a perfect bow. So full and pink. Her tongue darted out and moistened the lower one. He couldn’t stifle the groan that rolled from the back of his throat.

He dragged his gaze back to her eyes. Passion mixed with doubt and fear stared back at him.

“I’m sorry.” The whispered words tumbled from his heart.

She blinked, then swallowed. “Why?”

“For hurting you.”

Her eyelids shuttered, and her breath hitched. Did she believe him? Was an apology enough for what he’d done? He’d walked away, leaving her to think he’d never wanted her, when the truth was, he wanted her more than his next breath. Sorry sounded so insignificant, compared to how much damage he’d done to her heart.

“Gabrielle.” Long, dark eyelashes lifted. Beautiful, near gold eyes shimmered with unshed tears. Please don’t cry. If only he had the power to bring her tears of joy. Instead of the pain he was so damn good at. He wanted to kiss the hurt away. “Remind me.”

Her lips parted first in silence before she asked, “Of what?”

Arran released her arms and cupped her face with his palms. He caressed her lips with his gaze before lifting it back to hers. “What I walked away from.”

Almost every author’s bio states they’ve been writing since they learned to read. It’s what they’ve always wanted to do. Well, my journey wasn’t so straight and narrow. I’ve been a nurse for over twenty years and hold a bachelor’s degree in Science with a major in Biology. So, as you can see, my career path had originally gone in the opposite direction. I didn’t discover my passion for the craft until after I’d had my son and decided to work part-time.

I’ve always loved to read but had never read a paranormal romance. Then one night at work on break, I began reading Karen Marie Moning’s, Spell of the Highlander. I couldn’t believe what I had been missing, and I immediately feel in love with the genre.

I wanted to write like that. To create a story others could find the same excitement in, as I did, when I read my first sensual paranormal romance.

That’s what I hope you find here. A fabulous escape and wonderful adventure that keeps you coming back for more.

Unspoken Desires (Tri-Omega Mates, 5) by Stormy Glenn
Publisher: Siren-Bookstrand Publishing
Genre: Erotic Romance, M/M/M, Menage, Werewolves

Review Copy Received from Publisher

Summary: Daniel James, required by his alpha to attend a wolf council meeting at Vourdala Island, never expects to run into his mate, Brom McGregor. Several years ago, Brom kicked him out of their pack, saying he would never mate him, that he didn't love Daniel. Running into Brom is almost more than he can handle when Daniel knows he still loves the man.

Brom McGregor is shocked to see Daniel, the man he's always loved and never forgotten. He's even more shocked when his own jealousy makes him claim Daniel as his mate, especially since Brom is already married with two small children. To add to Brom's problems, there's a third mate, Jaryn, whom Daniel doesn't even know about, someone that Brom has spent their years apart protecting.
Faced with a hunt to the death ordered by his father because he mated Daniel, Brom is forced to flee with his two small children and Jaryn. The only place he can think to go is to Daniel. Can he convince Daniel that he sent him away all those years ago to save his life even knowing that he's putting Daniel in danger again? Will Daniel forgive him in time to save Jaryn's life?

Deb’s Review Unspoken Desires by Stromy Glenn is a marvelous addition to this series! I could hardly wait to finally get to Daniel’s story.
He captured my heart. I knew Stormy Glenn would do him justice, even as I found myself shocked with Jaryn. *g*
What do you get when you put a bunch of hot wolfies together on an Island? One heck of a party, one with all the trimmings, even a bit of drama to add to the spice of the book, that’s what.
I adored Daniel’s quirkiness, he made this book fun. There for a moment though I thought just maybe he would have to wait again for his mate. As I read, I was grumbling, please Ms. Glenn let it be now. *g*
Brom was an interesting addition to say the least. I never would have thought his story would have been written like this…nice spin. *VBG* He makes a great mate for Daniel.
I am interested though, Ms. Glenn, are you going to do a book on the cubs after they grow and come into their own wolf? I have a feeling that Brom’s father will raise his ugly head again, in this series. I think one of the best things, well second best thing because the first is all that hotness from all those sexy wolves, is that Stormy Glenn keeps this series interesting and fun. It is not very often I find myself in awe of a series. This will always be a true favorite of mine to reread over and over.
As for the second level characters, I feel there are none. I feel that all of the characters are first string because of how Ms. Glenn writes them. You never feel the lime light just on Daniel, Brom and Jaryn. It is on the whole cast, which I so enjoy.
Now that I have all that said, Stormy Glenn, what are you planning for Nikko? I can almost hear your wheels turning in that brilliant mind of yours. Will you ever have this series in print?
I so want to be you when I grow up. *vbg* Thank you for gifting readers with your books, which I know will be a treasure to me. All the best to you in the future.

Uncle Ed's Lap by Parker Ford

Uncle Ed’s Lap by Parker Ford
Publisher: Excessica Publishing
Genre: Contemporary

Review Copy Received from Publisher

Summary: Fiona volunteers to help her recently widowed uncle get his house in order before starting her freshman year of college. Uncle Ed and aunt Carole are two of her favorite people in the world. While trying to help her grieving uncle, she doesn't expect her school girl crush to turn into a torrid affair, but it does. She doesn't expect him to want her at all, but he does, more than he can handle. And as her uncle struggles with the thoughts of wanting and having his niece in so many ways, Fiona struggles to show him that it's all okay. That she's not a little girl any more.

Dakota’s Review: When I first picked up, Uncle Ed’s Lap I was intrigued. Was this a taboo story? Or was it a romance in disguise? Well, with this review I’m not going to give away Ms Ford’s plot here but all I can say is, as a reader, I was pleasantly surprised. This story touches on a very important issue that all of us, young and old, will deal with one day. Losing a loved one is never easy but Ms. Ford deals with this painful issue with the finesse it deserves. Do not mistake me when I say this though. Even though this talented author handles the issue of death in a tasteful way, she writes scorching hot love scenes to compliment the somber tone of a man dealing with his wife’s death with a little bit of help from his loving niece. She has given her readers a near perfect balance.

With that being said, all I can add is that I wish I had an uncle like “Uncle Ed.” Even at his harshest, Fiona never once doubts his love for her and who can resist the sexy older alpha male? Those alphas are like a fine wine and only get better with age. *smiles*

While this is Ms. Ford’s first release for Excessica Publishing, I look forward to seeing more of her work in the future and hopefully getting the chance to review it.

Now they must convince her to share their love and lives for all eternity. Will she believe their fantastic tale and trust in their love enough to make the final commitment? Will she accept immortality, their bond, and their love?

Dakota’s Review: Wow, anyone who wants a huge dose of multiple alpha males needs to pick up Sultry Santorini Sunsets. Seriously, this book should come with a warning label. It’s uber hot and I’m surprised it didn’t melt my Kindle. I was definitely in need of a cold shower after reading this tale. Eliza March has piqued my interest and although I’ve never read anything by her before, I definitely will be looking for more work by this talented author. As my editor is fond of saying, “Dang, you should’ve written this on asbestos proof paper.” It was that hot.

Aside from sexy hot males and one very lucky female, I couldn’t help but be drawn to the men of this book. Their undeclared leader, Damien, tugged at my heartstrings as he tried to keep his men on the path of honor while all but him have lost their emotions. Mira was the exact thing needed for his overburdened soul and Ms. March did a wonderful job balancing not only the relationship between Mira and her men but the inter-relationships between the men themselves. I was whisked away by this story and eagerly await for another delightful tale of by this author. Kudos, Ms. March for such a sizzling but emotional tale of redemption

Summary: Carl has always harbored feelings for his outrageously crazy roommate, Ritchie, but he's too shy to do anything about it for fear of ruining their friendship.

Outside a local club one night, a bum offers Ritchie a quick blowjob in exchange for ten bucks. Only problem is Ritchie doesn't have the cash, and Carl isn't paying someone else to suck off the guy he likes.

If Ritchie wants a blowjob so badly, why doesn't he just ask Carl?

Dakota’a Review: What can I say, Ms. Snyder can really write a delightful yarn. In this book she once more delivers with the intensity and well developed relationships between her characters. While not long in length Money’s Worth feels like a much longer book. I flew through the pages and found myself hungering for more. I wonder if Ms. Snyder could be tempted to write another story about Carl and Ritchie?

In this book, everyone has met a “Ritchie”. He’s the class clown who’d do anything on a dare and laugh even if he did get caught. It’s hard to not relate and love a character like him. By the same token—I know from experience since I was one myself—Carl, the self-professed ‘nerd’, was very easy to relate to. Bravo, Ms. Snyder, you’ve created two wonderful characters with Carl and Ritchie. I almost felt like I was back in school. Of course this had me rooting and hoping that Carl would get his wish and be able to claim the irresistible Ritchie. I won’t give away the ending and steal your thunder but all I can say is it left a huge smile on this reviewer’s face.

Let Sleeping Demons Lie by Maree Anderson

Let Sleeping Demons Lie by Maree Anderson

Review Copy Received from Publisher

Summary: Kitten’s been stripped of her memories—and her clothes!—and dumped in a savage wilderness. She believes that she is human and she has no idea that non-humans even exist—which is just as well, considering that she’s got a phobic fear of Lycans and the man who finds her is a Lion shape shifter!

Brennan is a Prime, that most alpha of alphas, and even though he suspects that Kitten is not what she appears to be, he lays claim to her body, and her heart. When they’re ambushed by sadistic Hyenas and Brennan is severely injured, Kitten’s only chance of saving them both is to reclaim her Demonic heritage—even if it means revealing her true self and losing Brennan’s love.

Dakota’s Review: Maree Anderson didn’t disappoint this reviewer. If anything I’d have to say that Let Sleeping Demons Lie is even hotter than the first book in this series. Well, it also could be because I have a fetish for sexy shape shifters. I don’t know what I liked more in this book, the hot love scenes or the vicious fight scenes. Ms. Anderson has written a very sexy read with this book and I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up another book by her.

While this book takes up where Even Demons Get the Blues leaves off, it can easily stand on its own. I even got to catch up with the original characters from the first book, especially the yummy Demon King. I’m still waiting to see if Ms. Anderson is going to give Asmodeus his own tale. Maybe if I get down on my knees and beg? Tragic to think of a reviewer doing this but I will, if it’ll help!

So if you like a bit of magic, sexy shape shifters and a feisty beguiler, then this book is for you!

Cassie's Awakening by Brigit Aine

Cassie’s Awakening by Brigit Aine
Publisher: Eternal Press
Genre: erotic, paranormal romance

Review Copy Received from Publisher

Summary: Cassie’s talent is dampening the emotions of others. This has been a very useful way of keeping peace around her, but has proven harmful in learning about passion and love. After all, none of the men she has ever dated have been able to profess or show the true depth of their feelings.

Jared is happy for Ethan and Red, but he doesn’t want a mate of his own, no matter what his inner wolf might say. Unfortunately, every time he sees the beautiful Cassie, he knows his wolf is winning the battle.

Will Cassie and Jared discover that a powerful force can overcome even a talent? As their path unfolds, a stranger arrives in Torrent; is this a sign of trouble on its way?

Stacey’s Review: Brigit Aine created an interesting storyline of a town where humans have special gifts and wolf shifters live amongst them in secret.

Cassie can’t feel passion due to her talent. The only person that is immune to her ability is Jared. With him, she feels all the desire and emotion she never gets to feel on a normal basis. I wish we could have learned a bit more about Cassie’s history and how she ended up with this gift. The short length of the book didn’t seem to offer enough expansion for this complex storyline.

Jared is conflicted between the man and the wolf within him. His wolf knows that Cassie is his destined mate before Jared does. He feels powerful new emotions such as jealousy, possessiveness and the need to claim her as his own when around her.

Cassie’s Awakening was a quick paranormal romance read. I’m skeptical to call it erotic. The focus was more on the story than the one sexual encounter. There was a stranger to the town introduced, but not developed upon, so I hope to learn about this in future novels.

Brigit Aine shows a lot of potential and I look forward to her future endeavors.

Excerpt:

July 1880

Loving, Texas

“I’m trapped in Hell.” Morgan Remington needed a plan to extract his ass out this deadly situation. Unfortunately, he hadn’t come up with a scheme that was worth a damn. His fist clenched, the muscles in his arm pulled taut. The urge to hit or better yet, destroy came in a hard and heavy flood. He forced himself to relax.

He’d arrived in Loving, Texas yesterday night and his opinion was still the same. Being restricted to the premises was hell. Standing on the private balcony of his bedroom over looking acres of prime land suitable for longhorn cattle, he sipped the whisky in his glass and watched the last vestiges of twilight fade into blessed night.

The air stirred, bringing the odor of cow poop. To his enhanced vampire senses, it was well, just plain shitty. What Morgan really wanted was to return to Night Trails, his air conditioned, vampire secure East Texas dude ranch in the twenty-first century. Thanks to the Highest One, his manager, Blake Travis, could handle whatever arose while he was away.

Morgan scowled. Blake had made it sound like he was going on a damn vacation. No, he was back in the past and could well end up dying in this dry, Texas town. His gaze scanned the pasture again. Nothing unusual. It didn’t pay to let your guard down.

He’d occasionally visited the Old West for enjoyment, but this time was an exception. The Vampiric Council of Darkness, otherwise known as the VCD, threatened and forced him on this trip, which seriously pissed him off.

The VCD’s order interfered with the search for his mate. Now was the worst time for him to leave. Who’d have thought at the annual American-European Alliance he’d come so close to finding his chosen mate. For the first time, he experienced the bright flare of hope of actually finding her. And in Ireland, of all places. Due to personal vendettas, the Council members kept American vampires from traveling or living in Europe without authorization.

Morgan closed his eyes and remembered how her scent had reached out like a commanding caress. Spicy warm and sweet, it had enveloped him in an invisible web. When it stroked the length of his cock, he’d gone instantly hard.

By the powers of the Highest One, he needed to return to the secluded island off Ireland’s stormy coast and investigate further. He’d fought this temporary exile to the point of insubordination. The Council’s timing and their weak explanations for his blast to the past didn’t add up. Too damn much was happening at once. Almost like the military tactic of dividing his attention so someone could sneak in and try to kill him. The VCD was up to something big and he’d bet his fangs it wasn’t for the good of anyone but the members.

Wow! Tambra, Cowboy of the Night has definitely piqued my curiosity. I love erotic, paranormal romance and I'm a Texas girl through and through. Can't wait to read this one.

Egyptian Nights by Jennifer Mueller

Egyptian Nights by Jennifer Mueller

Genre: Mainstream Romance, Fantasy, Time Travel, Historical/Period, Suspense/Mystery, Interracial/Multicultural

Review Copy Received from Publisher

Summary: A horrible death, an even bigger mistake by the gods of Ancient Egypt, a modern day woman is trapped in a life not her own, but even in death beginnings can happen.

Shelly’s Review: This is a unique time-travel story that goes back thousands of years to Egypt. Victoria, beaten by her husband, Neil, traveled back to enter the body of Mayati, the dying wife of priest Khaemhat. As Khaemhat takes care of his wife, now Victoria, he interacts with her like he never got to do with Mayati, and in Egyptian Nights, Jennifer Mueller made me feel as if it was almost possible for time-travel events to really happen.

As Khaemhat takes care of Victoria, they form a close bond, which is only heightened by the fact that no one else knows she's not actually his wife, Mayati, but Victoria. Jennifer describes some sensual moments in this book, but I didn't think it was overly sexual. I liked how well they seemed to understand each other, as if they were destined to be together. Jennifer made me want to hurry to the end so I knew if Victoria got to stay in Egypt with Khaemhat or went back to her old life.

I really enjoy time-travel stories and this one was unlike any I've ever read. It's always great to see just how the author is going to end up at that happily-ever-after and Jennifer did not disappoint me. I'd love to read more from Jennifer Mueller!
