At Piper's Point by Ethan Day

At Piper's Point by Ethan Day
Publisher: Loose Id
Genre: GLBT (M/M), Contemporary, Erotic Romance

Review Copy Received from Publisher

Summary:

Ten years and many boyfriends later, Cassidy Winters finally returns to the ancestral home of his late grandmother, Sadie Hart, despite the best efforts of his father to prevent it. Cassidy's plans of a quiet, seaside ceremony to wish a final farewell to Sadie quickly unravel. Interruptions run roughshod, beginning with Neil, who walks out of the ocean and straight into Cassidy's bed. The dominos topple one by one when the little dog he rescues from the hounds of hell brings him to Ben, the hunky vet who rescues Cassidy right back. News of his arrival spreads faster than Cassidy's legs, bringing his boyhood friend and first love Nate Sommers to his doorstep -- leaving Cassidy spiraling into a multi-layered love snafu. As if the island wasn't getting crowded enough for Cassidy's good taste and bad decisions, best friends Ollie and Spencer arrive in time to witness the uninvited return of Cassidy's most recent ex, Teddy, who's refusing to stay dumped.

Fists fly and all hell breaks loose amid mojitos and martinis while Cassidy finds himself planning a huge party to celebrate Sadie's life. Accusations are aimed as arguments and libidos boil over, but even through the chaos Cassidy knows exactly who he wants. While he's certainly willing, he isn't sure if he's ready or able for love and life at Pipers Point.

K.B.'s Review:

Wacky, loving characters, snarky humor, and screwball antics perfectly balanced by emotional depth make At Piper’s Point by Ethan Day the best book he has written to date.

Sadie Hart was the anchor of Cassidy Winters’ childhood. Raised by emotionally cold and distant parents, Cassidy spent his summers on Hart’s Island with Sadie, her friend and housekeeper, Natalie, and Natalie’s son, Nate. As teenagers, Nate and Cassidy’s friendship turned passionate, but unfortunately, they grew apart after Cassidy went to college, and Sadie suffered a stroke. A long court battle ensued when Cassidy’s father put Sadie in a nursing home following her stroke and subsequent death. After winning the court battle, Cassidy brings Sadie’s ashes home, and he is confronted by his past at every turn.

Cassidy’s love life is a disaster. All of his relationships begin with the shelf life of the school year. His current and ex lovers crash headlong into one another at Hart’s Island with alarming regularity, and provide many of the numerous tickle the funny bone moments in At Piper’s Points. Cassidy’s interactions with the players in his love life drama are funny, poignant, and fraught with sexual tension as he tries to come to terms with the past so he can move on with his future. The sex scenes are hotter than hot yet light-hearted and playful.

At Piper’s Point is as humorous as Mr. Day’s other novels, but the underlying thread of seriousness brings an added emotional intensity that is absent from his other works. Cassidy’s deep examination of his past is exacerbated by all of the people surrounding him. Ollie and Spencer are friends who are ex-lovers of his. Nate is his childhood friend and ex-lover. Natalie and the town welcome Cassidy back with open arms. And Sadie is foremost in Cassidy’s thoughts. Although she is dead, Sadie is, by far, the most powerful character of the novel. Sadie is captivatingly larger than life, and I found myself reading faster and faster so I could get to her next scene.

Mr. Day’s character development is so phenomenal that I feel like I have made new friends when I finish reading one of his books. The characters have their share of flaws, but they are always three dimensional, likeable, and realistic. And let’s not forget fun loving! As is so often the case when reading one of Mr. Day’s novels, I found myself laughing so hard I wind up crying. Another hallmark of Mr. Day’s novels is the intense and remarkable bond of friendship the characters share, and I think this is one area where At Piper’s Point truly shines.

If you are an Ethan Day fan, you will find At Piper’s Point as amazing and moving as I did. If you are new to Ethan Day, you will be blown away by this talented author and immediately buy his previous works. I am waiting with breathless anticipation for Mr. Day’s next novel!

Summary:

Free-spirited and just a little bohemian, Edie Bishop comes to Liebling, Texas expecting to cook up some tasty treats at the bed and breakfast she co-owns with her best friend.

The last thing on Edie's mind is to become involved in a tantalizing love affair with two of the hottest cowboys in town. When the sexy-beyond-belief Chisholm brothers let her know they've set their eyes on her, Edie knows she's in for some hot Texas summer nights.

Jason, a stony and hardened SEAL, and his younger brother, Seth, known for a hundred-mile radius for his devilish charm, manage their family's cattle ranch during the day and run the local bar at night. They were fully content with their lives—until Edie shows up and they realize they can't be completely happy without her.

But when an old flame comes back to town hoping to rekindle what they used to have, peace-loving Edie will have to decide if she wants to roll up her sleeves and fight for her men.

Donna’s Review:

Let’s be honest, shall we? Sometimes we just really need a sexy, sexy story to enjoy, to make us sigh deeply and to speed up our heart rates. Ladies and gentlemen, this is it! In Edie Earns Her Saddle there is a respectable plot with a bit of angst and a great deal of fun, but to me this is really about the wonderful life affirming ménage relationship and sex that blossoms among these three wonderful people.

There are other good parts, too. I, for one, love it that these amazingly sensual cowboys desire the woman who only drinks fair-trade coffee, has curvy hips and amply bosoms, and dresses in a rather bohemian style over the bitch with the tiny waist, perfect clothing and perfectly coiffed hair. It is wonderful to see that Edie has such an amazing friendship with Lena that they can almost read each other’s minds and freely offer one another emotional support and encouragement. And I love the scene when Jason first sees Edie’s artwork. Jason, this tough military man, is so impressed by Edie’s artistic expression that it takes his breath away. How sweet is that?

In case you can’t tell by now, I really enjoyed this story. Edie Earns Her Saddle is 200 pages of pure, unadulterated fun. Jason and Seth love Edie and she loves them…as often as possible. When you next need a fun erotic book to make you smile, forget your troubles and bring color to your cheeks, pick up Ava Mitchell’s Edie Earns Her Saddle. Better yet, get it now and keep it close at hand to bring up in your reader as needed.

Cria by Suzanne Rock

Cria by Suzanne Rock

Genre: Multicutural, Paranormal, Erotic Romance, Shape-Shifter
Length: Novella

Review Copy Received from the Publisher

Summary:

Deep in the heart of the Amazon Jungle, an ancient breeding race begins…

Ever since she was jilted by her lover, Aleta had been subjected to humiliation by her Jaguarundi tribe. Not anymore. She is determined to emerge from her final Cria unmated, and finally be free of tribal traditions and her overbearing father. Aleta has plans -- bigger plans than her father’s desire to see her marked by some oafish warrior in an outdated breeding competition. After the Cria she’ll move to the city and start fresh, leaving her clan -- and her broken heart -- behind.

Unfortunately, the past is unwilling to let her go.

Forced to abandon Aleta when he went into exile, Luiz knows that this Cria will be his last chance to reclaim what is rightfully his. When a surprise encounter doesn’t go exactly as planned, he realizes it will take more than a little seduction for Aleta to forgive the sins of the past. The race is on, and the battle of wills has begun. Everyone knows that in the Cria anything can happen, and with the stakes this high, all bets are off.

Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual content and graphic language.

Von's Review:

Suzanne Rock is one author that does a great job of steaming up pages without a forced feeling.

Cria is my second novella that I have read by this author. At this point, I love everything that I have read. The only complaint that I have is that the story was too short! I would love to sink my claws into one of her full length reads and fan myself as the characters take their time getting to know one another.

While Cria was a quick read, it did not disappoint me in any way. Cria’s plot was well written and the story was easy to follow. The writing was so vivid that you could not help but get wrapped up in the main character’s emotions. The chemistry between Aleta and Luiz oozed off the page. They were both strong alpha like characters that needed each other to feel complete. Their romance was chaotic because of past betrayals and misunderstandings, but their attraction was passionate and unavoidable because they were true soul mates.

Can he tame the hellcat with the tongue sharper than cheap tequila? Does he want to or will the call of the rodeo pull him away?

Note: This book contains anal sex.

A Siren Erotic Romance

Donna’s Review:

Wild Rodeo Nights is a heart wrenching love story. This book is the second in the Wilder series and, while always better to read a series in order, can be read as a standalone.

The heroine of Wild Rodeo Nights is Carrie. At a time in her life when many young women have finished their education and are getting settled into a career, Carrie is dealing with the death of her parents; she is providing a home, love, and support for her 17 year old grieving and pregnant sister; she is attempting to keep her late father’s business afloat; and she is desperately trying to make ends meet financially. When she attempts to confront the father of her sister’s baby about stepping up and accepting responsibility, she accidentally confronts the wrong man. That’s how she meets Cole.

Cole is a Wilder and a rodeo bull rider. He seems to enjoy his life of constant travel and bull riding although the author, Sandy Sullivan, gives little glimpses that perhaps Cole’s life isn’t as fulfilling as he says it is. In any case, neither of the main characters is at the point of considering a long-term romance. Fate has a different idea.

At one point I wanted to call the author and ask just how much more pain she was planning to heap on one character but we have all met people like Carrie who seem to stay buried under one catastrophe after another. If adversity makes us stronger, Carrie would be a house of bricks. In some very difficult situations Cole is there to support her; in others he causes her more pain.

Cole’s family doesn’t come into the book until the last third. I love Cole’s brother, Chase, and sister-in-law, Abby, but had some problems with Cole’s parents. It seemed to me that once they realized who her father was they should have stayed in touch and given her a hand whether Cole was in her life or not.

In Wild Rodeo Nights, Sandy Sullivan has written an easy reading cowboy love story that reminds me somewhat of an old-fashioned country song. I think the female puts up with way too much from the cowboy and the heartbreak is very dramatic but in the end things work out for an HEA ending.

Relentless by Bailey Bradford

Relentless by Bailey Bradford
Publisher: Total-E-Bound Publishing
Genre: Paranormal, Shapeshifter, Gay, M/M

Review Copy Received from Publisher

Summary:

Book two in the Southwestern Shifters Series

Zane Mitchell is about to learn that you can’t outrun your destiny—especially not when that destiny is wrapped up in the form of one big, sexy, relentless shapeshifter, Aidan Criswell.

Zane is the alpha of the Gila National Forest pack of shifters. He’s been forced to make some very bad choices—like kicking out Mika Blackwell, a gay shifter who was once Zane’s friend. The elders demanded it, and Zane gave in to them rather than stand up to them.

When he and all other alphas of Southwestern packs are called to a mandatory meeting with the Dux Ducis—Aidan Criswell, the man in charge of all shifter packs in the Southwest U.S.—something happens that sends Zane fleeing in panic. He’s found his mate, the one person who can complete him—and the one person Zane knows could never want him because of his past actions.

Aidan Criswell is as shocked to discover the man he’d been ordered to investigate—a man who’d had a pack member banned for being gay—is his mate. But destined mates are always exactly perfectly matched, and once Aidan accepts that fact, he believes there is more to Zane’s story than meets the eye—and as Zane is soon to discover, Aidan Criswell is one relentless son of a bitch.

Samhain Queene's Review:

Relentess by Bailey Bradford is a wonderful sequel to Rescued, book one in the Southwestern Shifters series.

Zane and Aidan make a stunning, maybe stunned, couple. And, we get to see Mika and Gabe again. Zane’s internal battle and guilt combined with his overwhelming attraction to Aidan amps up their interactions. Aidan’s reaction to discovering Zane is not only his mate but the alpha who banned a pack member for being gay is intense. Aidan wants nothing to do with the man he thinks Zane is. But his captain and guards force him to find out the truth because the fates are never wrong when they decide on your mate.

Aidan refuses to let Zane’s inner doubts keep them apart. Their journey leads down the dark, twisted path of Zane’s childhood, his parents’ deaths, and the deaths of Mika’s parents. Much is discovered in this fantastic story of love and redemption. Relentless is definitely worth reading.

Summary:

A Raider's Bodyguard Tale

When an attack is confirmed against the rich and powerful Edington family, Raider’s Bodyguard Service springs into action. Jake Raider is assigned the independent but spoiled Andrea. He’s protected her before but this time he’s bringing the tools to tame her and make her his.

There are plenty of things Andrea wants to do with Jake but none of them involve business. In the past, he rejected her advances but this time he’s giving her what she wants and making her beg for more. Exploring the sexual needs they’ve denied, she’s at his mercy and loving it.

Jae’s Review:

Abducting Andrea drew me in with its summary, and I couldn't resist picking it up to read.

This is certainly an entertaining and cute story about what happens when people long deny their sexual response to one another. We come into the story with a prior, non-sexual, relationship already established…they know each other, but not well. The sexual scenes are quite hot and plentiful. I would have like more character development. I had a hard time finding the reasons as to why these two were together. That may have been an issue with the length of the story, though. Abducting Andrea packs quite a bit of action into a short story. I think it'd be fun to revisit these characters in more depth to see where they go from here.

This is my first Cheryl Dragon story and I can't wait to see what she can do with a longer story.

Summary:

Older widow Delia Barnes is sporting a black eye when she greets fellow authors before an erotic romance convention, which she explains away by joking “I didn’t say ‘Yes Master’ quick enough.” Sitting at the bar, burned-out ad executive and former Dom Kurt Reinhardt overhears the remark—and interrupts to suggest maybe she needs “a new Master”.

Urged by her friends to accept the younger man’s invitation to learn some D/s basics—hey, an author needs to do her research, right?—Delia joins him to get first-hand experience at being submissive, starting with removing her panties in a corner booth. Later, she learns more than she bargained for when she spends a weekend at Kurt’s home…with his eager business partner added to the mix.

But an innocent misstep brings Delia’s world crashing down around her. Can she trust Kurt with her heart…and her life?

Reader Advisory: Delia gets some up-close-and-personal training during a delectable m/f/m ménage.

Jae’s Review:

I haven't really found a great deal of interest in the 'cougar' books that have come out recently, so I was a bit hesitant to pick up another. However, the summary for What She Needs by Cris Anson was interesting, which is what first drew my attention. Then I read the excerpt, which was compelling, funny and sexy, so I just had to give it a try.

This is my first Cris Anson story and it certainly won't be my last. The writing is great. You're drawn into the character's lives right from the start. As far as cougar stories go, you feel the underlying issue of age that must be resolved, but it is far from the primary concern or primary plot device. My only real issue with the story as a whole was the actions of our hero and what he had to do to get back into our heroine's good graces. I'm not sure his action was redeemable realistically. That being said, it might not bother other readers. I might not have had such a strong reaction to his violation of trust if their entire relationship wasn't based upon the need to build trust. I will say that, even with my questioning of this section of plot line, I truly enjoyed learning about these characters.

What She Needs is a short story that packs a lot of emotion into a tiny package. The BDSM is mild. The sex scenes are extremely hot. The ménage scenes are unique. Is there another book on the way for Kurt's friend? I'd love to hear more about Logan.

Review Copy Received From Publisher

Summary:

Can Andrew really spend twelve hours saying no to everything Stephen offers him? It’s not going to be easy, when all he wants to say is - Yes!

Andrew likes sex. If someone he’s attracted to wants to have sex with him, he’s not going to say no to them. That’s not a character flaw, it’s just common sense.

Stephen seems to think otherwise. He’s sure Andrew is incapable of saying no to a cheap thrill. But, at the same time, he’s more than happy to provide Andrew with the perfect opportunity to prove him wrong.

Andrew has no doubt that he can say no to everything the younger man offers him for the next twelve hours, and that’s all he needs to do to win their bet. He’s also quite looking forward to cutting the would-be dominant down to size in the process. Because, while he may be easy when it comes to vanilla encounters, Andrew has high standards when it comes to dominants.

There’s no way an inexperienced nineteen year old is going to receive his submission. Andrew will obviously find it easy to say no to that. Won’t he…?

Jae’s Review:

Yes! is an absolutely adorable story with an engaging plot that keeps you interested throughout. You can probably tell from the summary that the book isn't non-stop sex. It is, however, non-stop build up, which I think may have been even better.

There's not much I can say about this book without giving things away. Stephen has unique reasons for approaching Andrew in the way that he does and he's quite clever to go about it in this way. He knows Andrew better than Andrew knows himself. The evolution of both characters from the beginning to the end of this short story was excellent. I thought the level of suspense about what would happen next was just great.

If you're interested in a fun, sexy read, you should certainly check out Yes! by Kim Dare.

Summary:

Nell, an out-of-work professional submissive, is desperate to find a job when she meets handsome film star Jeremy Gray at the restaurant where she works. He says he needs a personal assistant, but the work contract he shows her details not organizational duties, but sexual ones. Jobless and homeless, Nell agrees to work for him anyway, on the promise that he will pay for her to finish her college degree when her stint as his “assistant” is complete.

The start of their formal Dom/sub relationship is rocky, but they soon fall into a mutually satisfying, highly sexual routine. They play vanilla boyfriend and girlfriend in public, while Jeremy uses Nell as his kinky comfort object behind the scenes. Then a stalker threatens their secret lifestyle, and their contract may not be strong enough to hold them together.

Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Anal play/intercourse, strong BDSM theme and content (including/not limited to spanking), dubious consent, exhibitionism, ménage (m/f/m), moresome (m/f/m/f with f/f interaction), multiple partners, voyeurism.

Jae’s Review:

I've had a really difficult time trying to figure out what I want to say in this review. You can see from the rating that I thought this book was excellent. Every Annabel Joseph's book I have read has been so well-written and engaging.

The character development is outstanding. I can see some readers would think Nell is a weak heroine with regard to some of her choices, but they aren't really looking at her. They are looking at themselves and imagining what they'd do in a similar situation. She makes different choices than what most people…or at least most women…would likely make, but those choices are based upon her belief system and require a strength of conviction that most of us wouldn't choose to have.

The only reason I mention this is because this is a very intelligently written book, as are all Annabel Joseph books that I've had the privilege of reading. Look past that first layer for more than a surface plot that you get in many erotic romances today.

Every word adds layers to the characters. There are no superfluous words. Everything means something and will take you deeper into the lives of these characters.

The sex and BDSM scenes are outrageously hot and you'll feel as if you're in the room with these characters. The BDSM in this story is meant for readers of BDSM books. It's most likely not a good starter book…or anywhere close to that really. What it is, though, is clever and fresh.

I highly recommend this story to readers of BDSM that enjoy reading intelligent works of art, because that's what this is. It's a tale woven with meaning from beginning to end and I, for one, enjoyed it immensely.

The Manny Diaries by Kilt Kilpatrick

The Manny Diaries by Kilt Kilpatrick
Publisher: Ravenous Romance
Genre: GLBT, M/M, Erotic Romance

Review Copy Received from Author

Summary:

Young art student Evan Ross falls out of the closet and into the fire when an unexpected sexual encounter with a friend changes his life forever. His rocky - and surprisingly hot - search for true love and a real job (not necessarily in that order) takes him on a series of romantic adventures and misadventures, from the lofty hills to the seedy streets of San Francisco.

When he lands a job as a male nanny for a precocious 8-year old, his career and romance paths start to converge - and he finds himself falling for a dead-ringer of his dream man, Clive Owen. The only problem? It's the girl's straight father.

Can he land his dream job and his dream man? THE MANNY DIARIES is sexy, warm and hilarious novel with a supporting cast of quirky, lovable characters, a fun pace, and a true-to-life setting.

Kathy’s Review:

I loved The Manny Diaries... and I’m still rather swoony even a day later. Okay, swoony’s a weird word—I’m using it so it must be a word—but it’s definitely how I feel. All kind of giddy and happy...and relieved...very, very relieved!

I totally adore Evan, he’s just so... cute! And sweet and he’s really a unique person, but one that I would really enjoy spending time with. His relationship with his charge, Monette, is wonderful. In all the best ways he remembers what it’s like to be a kid and I think that’s a big part of his charm. I also liked that he’s a dreamer... and a very hopeful person. And getting his first person point-of-view was a real treat; having an inside look at just what was going on behind that boy-next-door façade was fun and satisfying.

His friend Trini, oh now she’s a hoot! But she also knows Evan much better than even he does; at least she’s not going to let him continue to ignore the self-evident truth... that he is gay, gay, gay. I still giggle thinking of their interactions.

And Monette is a charmer; this girl totally has those in her life wrapped around her tiny finger, but she doesn’t take advantage. She’s an adventure all in herself and a child that I’d find fascinating... and I’d hope that I could be even half as good with her as Evan was. Together they’re magic!

This isn’t an angst-filled story about admitting the truth to oneself, instead Kilt Kilpatrick has given us a tale about finding love in some of the most interesting places; and being true to oneself, in all the ways that matter. He’s also enriched the story with friendship, self-discovery and family.

Mr. Kilpatrick took us from high to low and to all the in-betweens and he always, always entertained while letting us rummage through Evan’s life. Lighthearted and sensitive, funny yet telling, people taking chances and giving everything they’ve got, The Manny Diaries has all this and more. I laughed, then cried then laughed again... and I discovered a new author who is definitely on my to-get-now list. If Kilt Kilpatrick’s other books contain even half the fun yet sweet and totally engaging characters along with a story that is all heart and a beautiful romance, then I will be a very happy reader.

Summary:

Gabriel Panlong has seen a lot over the centuries but nothing prepares him for the sight of two gorgeous men having sex up against an alley wall in broad daylight. Instantly turned on by the men and the scene before him, he feels guilty for watching such an intimate act. Gabriel walks away, only to hear the sounds of a struggle and smell the sweet scent of blood.

Hurrying back, Gabriel hopes the two little hot men he saw are okay. Instead he walks into five large men beating the two men he longed to join. Dealing with his mounting desire is the least of Gabriel's problems. Learning that Neil and Ryan were part of an underground slavering and the abuse they suffered, it's no wonder they don't trust Gabriel. But can he help heal them as they heal him of centuries of loneliness?

Samhain Queene’s Review:

Joyee Flynn’s Dragon Mine is an amazing take on the world of shifters.

The threesome of Gabriel, Neil and Ryan show us how devastating circumstances and be turned into a love and life worth fighting for. From finding out he has two mates to successfully navigating what could be a disaster, Gabriel is worth admiring. Neil and Ryan are the perfect balance for Gabriel. They come together like the missing pieces of a puzzle. What I loved the most was Neil and Ryan’s reaction to finding out what it really means to be mated to a dragon. Ms. Flynn makes the impossible plausible.

Tragedy strikes and their family is almost lost. There are many twists and turns on their road but in the end they are able to overcome anything as long as they work together. Ms. Flynn has given us a unique take on the world of shifters. Be ready for surprises with this one.

Summary:

Cast out of the family home for being gay, Milo Santiago considers himself lucky to have a soft place to land. However, crashing with his older brother isn't all it's cracked up to be. Desperate for an escape from his dismal reality, he turns to work and casual hookups to take his mind off his troubles.

He isn't prepared for the Campbell Brooks or being rejected in front of all his coworkers. Another run in with the older, enigmatic man is serendipitous, but not entirely unwelcome once he gets a gander at Cam in a pair of tiny swim shorts. One hot night leads to a weekend of debauchery. Long before the weekend is through, Milo finds himself falling for the mysterious man who insists on keeping things casual. Milo doesn't want to let Campbell go, but there doesn't seem to be any other option.

Afterward, Milo isn't sure if they've parted ways as friends or lovers. Cam's eventual return leaves Milo with a hard choice. A little persistence could go a long way toward landing the man of his dreams. Or it could alienate Cam and send him running right back to New York for good.

Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Male/male sexual practices.

Samhain Queene's Review:

Reckless Heart by Amanda Young is a wonderful addition to the Reckless series.

Of the four books, I have to say Milo’s story is my favorite. Milo and Cam’s rocky journey to happiness goes to show that no matter how long it takes or how hard it is, in the end it’s worth it.

Milo’s character is that of arrogant self-confidence twisted up with internal debate. Cam has had to hide in New York to appease his intolerant father. Parting after a passionate weekend, both question what they want. As soon as they decide a relationship is worth pursuing, their journey has you alternately cheering and frustrated. By the end I was smiling.

Reckless Heart is a truly heartwarming experience.
